WPXI News reported that three people, all students, were shot during the ordeal, but the story is still developing. WXPI said the three students were all injured outside of the school when they were shot, and one of the victims is in critical condition at a nearby hospital; the other two received non-life threatening wounds, WXPI said.

I'm one who is angry at this gun ownership bullshit without proper regulations. Also, and hopefully thru Obamacare some mentally ill people will get the help they need.

Fuck the NRA/GOPers

Two people currently being questioned. This shooting was probably over drugs.

(Edit to add) Post-gazette reports:

Police said the three people shot knew the shooter or shooters. Pittsburgh police said information from school officers indicated today's shooting might be linked to a fight at the school Oct. 18 -- possibly drug-related -- which led to a lockdown there for a week.

One student left the school and the lockdown was lifted, police said.

Five men, one woman and a child were arrested on Rockland Avenue. May be related may not be.

It appears a shooter or shooters open fired as three basketball players walked to a car parked on Lowenhell Avenue after leaving the school. It is illegal to park cars (except by residents) on that street but the car was parked anyway. The shooters appear to have been in the woods opposite Lowenhill Avenue, opened fire, then ran up the hill through the woods in the general direction of Beechview Elementary school. Beechview Elementary School is on Rockland Avenue. There is path through the woods between Lowenhill and Rockland Avenue. The path follows a water pipeline that goes from the end of Rockland to where Lowenhill starts at Crane Avenue.

Brashear High School is located on the last Farm to operate in the City of Pittsburgh, It was farmed till the 1950s (The City of Pittsburgh kept their horse at that farm). The City of Pittsburgh took over the farm for redevelopment in the 1950s and after a seres of long fights over what to do with the piece of land, Brashear High School was built in the late 1970s. In fact this piece of property is right next to what had been the lasting remaining part of what had been "Lower St Clair Township" in 1927 (the area that had been the last part of Lower St Clair Township is also called Seldom Seen. This last part of Lower St Clair Township was from about the south portal of the Wabash Tunnel, across what is now PA 51 to just short of where Brashear High School is today. As late as the 1950s you could drive into the area, but not since that time, it is just hillside and woods.

The same for the area from Beechview Elementary School to Crane Avenue, all woods and steep hillsides. It is rough terrain even for the city of Pittsburgh (the hillside to steep for a road, which given what roads the city has on other hillsides is a statement as to how steep it is).

Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak (Beechview is in her district) also released a statement Wednesday afternoon.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the students, families, and neighbors of Brashear High School as well as the school and safety officials keeping our neighborhoods secure. I have been in direct contact with our public safety officials on an as-needed basis. There are multiple local agencies involved in this complex operation and our office is encouraging them to focus their time entirely on the investigation. I will be sure to keep our community informed as we learn of any additional significant developments in this tragic situation.”

Anjohnito Willet, 16, was charged as an adult with attempted homicide and numerous other crimes after Pittsburgh Police said he shot at three students -- two of whom were charged in juvenile court after school police said they jumped Anjohnito near some lockers while a third teen watched.....

"We are seeing a large decline in the number of citations that are written for violations that occur in the school," Judge Motznik said. "Because of this new policy, these young women and men who are creating these problems in the schools realize that these citations are not being charged like they used to."
