[Jesse] Jackson Jr. assigned to minimum security section of prison

WASHINGTON -- Former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., who entered the Butner federal prison complex in North Carolina this morning after being turned away the day before, has been assigned to Butners minimum-security camp, the least secure part of the complex.
At the camp, inmates reside in dormitory-style housing, officials said. It is the only inmate housing area not ringed by a tall prison fence, and it held 332 inmates as of last Thursday.
Prison officials confirmed Jacksons incarceration after more than half a day of confusion sparked by an announcement Monday night by his lawyers spokeswoman. Bunnie Jackson-Ransom, an Atlanta publicist for Jackson lawyer C.K. Hoffler, said Jackson arrived at Butner sometime after 2 p.m. Chicago time Monday.
But Chris McConnell, executive assistant at Butner, told the Tribune late Monday afternoon that Jackson was not in custody. And at the Bureau of Prisons in Washington, spokesman Ed Ross cited the inmate locator on the prison systems public website, which listed Jackson as not in BOP custody.
