Mormons posthumously baptize slain Jewish reporter Daniel Pearl

Records indicate Pearl was baptized by proxy on June 1, 2011 at a Mormon temple in Twin Falls, Idaho, in practice that recently raised public outcry.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints posthumously baptized slain Jewish reporter Daniel Pearl last year, the Boston Globe reported on Wednesday.

Pearl was kidnapped in Pakistan's biggest city of Karachi in January 2002, where he was researching a story for the Wall Street Journal on Islamist militants, and was later beheaded.

The Globe learned of the posthumous baptism from Helen Radkey, an excommunicated Mormon, who said she had found a record of the baptism that records indicate Pearl was baptized by proxy on June 1, 2011 at a Mormon temple in Twin Falls, Idaho.

What is more arrogant and inhuman than to posthumously desecrate another human being. Who are the Mormons to know better than Mr. Pearl during his lifetime. Had he wanted to join the LDS church, wear magic underwear and do everything to get his own planet in the afterlife, he would have.

Is a post about the rabbi who bar mitzvahed Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and John Taylor and then gay-married them to each other, because they believed in polygamy. Payback's fair, right?

If they are going to baptize all these people, they should be forced to pay for their funeral costs, and help the surviving family with a stipend (endowment?). You baptize it -- you own it.

But as a Secular Humanist, I call on all religious people to consider the consequences of entangling themselves with other religions. If you MUST believe in them, supernaturalism, superstition, dogma, and pseudoscience are always best kept in your own back yard.

In my capacity as a Minister of the Universal Life Church, I regularly pray to have rational thought and empathy bestowed upon my brethren and those of other beliefs.

It, uh, doesn't work. But it's pretty fun, anyway.

ULC is, of course, the same prestigious institution which bestowed a Ph.D upon Hunter Thompson--a quite unique seal of approval. Thereafter, Thompson insisted upon being addressed as, "Doctor."

I'm also a minister of the Universal Life Church. I became a minister because the Catholic church refused to marry a couple of friends more than 12 years ago.

Since then, I have married dozens of my friends and relatives without religious affiliations. But since I've married them all, I think that makes me Mormon, gay and incestuous.

It's a wonderful life!

I'm the Third Assistant Backup Minister at every wedding I attend. I'd never seen an Irish priest completely lose himself to laughter until I explained to him at the reception that I'd had his back.

I expect that some day I'll really have to do it. Some couples will happily risk going to Hell rather than cancel a wedding.

records on my Irish born paternal Grandparents. The Church of latter day saints has an extremely large data base of genealogical records from various countries including the US. There was a big uproar when it was found out that they were postumously baptizing those Irish ancestors and I assume others from all the countries they collect data on. So I assume they have been doing this for a long time. They aren't going to stop, they just apologize then continue in secret. Very, very strange.

Even funnier, they're proxy baptisms and weddings, meaning that believers have to actually stand in for the dead. I wonder if the believer goes through life with boasting rights that they stood-in for John Kennedy?

Shouldn't George & Olive Osmond, deceased parents of Donnie, Marie and the rest of the Osmond brood, be posthumously Bar/Bat Mitzvah'ed? How else are these religions going to maintain a fair and level praying field (sorry..) when only one of them is actively engaged in "spirit snatching"?

Am I going to have to put it in my will that the absolutely will not convert me when after I'm dead? I'm waiting for a family of the deceased to sue the Mormons for doing it.
