NSA Defender Feinstein Blasts Spying on Allies
Source: TIME
Senator Dianne Feinstein, the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee and a steadfast defender of the National Security Agencys domestic surveillance programs, said she is totally opposed Monday to the agency spying on allied countries.
Unless the United States is engaged in hostilities against a country or there is an emergency need for this type of surveillance, I do not believe the United States should be collecting phone calls or emails of friendly presidents and prime ministers. The president should be required to approve any collection of this sort, Feinstein said.
The NSAs foreign spying activities have come under close scrutiny in recent days, after documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealed the agency had eavesdropped on the cell phones of at least 35 leaders of foreign governments, possibly including German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Feinstein said the Senate Intelligence Committee was not satisfactorily informed of the NSAs policy of spying on allied leaders and that a total review of all intelligence programs is in order...

Is she OK with trashing our Constitutional rights, but staunchly defending the rights of other nations to their privacy?

(7,321 posts)I'm just reading a piece in Foreign Policy specifically asserting Feinstein is outraged, gonna rake NSA over the coals from top to bottom, blah blah blah blah blah and more horseshit, dog and pony, smoke and mirrors crap to make like she's gone on some magical mystery transformation tour of enlightenment on the evils of the national security state.
If anyone buys that pile of cow dung, I've got several beach front properties in Arizona to sell them.
I've really gotten to know ya over the past 10 years DiSpy.. and I am thoroughly disgusted. This show you're putting on right now does NOT fool me in the least.

The Foreign Policy article I made reference to is actually interesting:

(7,321 posts)no doubt she's been getting a lot of push back from rank and file party members, but i'd wager the push back from her pals in the "old world" who is all in a tither, so she's attempting to put on a new face, but seriously who in the hell is stupid enough to buy into a sudden 180 degree turn around on position.. no way.

(57,936 posts)she is wearing pearl earrings, a pearl necklace -- fine -- all simple and refined looking. But then she also has a gold pin PLUS that strangely fringed collar. I wonder whether she dresses herself or whether someone tells her what to wear. It's a bit busy and eccentric looking for a woman of her generation. Not a good sign in terms of mental health.

I have told all my friends and family to go to their primaries and vote for other Democrat candidates.

(6,241 posts)She's totally ok with spying on American citizens, but:
"Unless the United States is engaged in hostilities against a country or there is an emergency need for this type of surveillance, I do not believe the United States should be collecting phone calls or emails of friendly presidents and prime ministers."
Does that mean she considers the United States engaged in hostilities against the American people?

(6,785 posts)And that thing is spying on rich people. If they spy on rich politicians, they might be spying on her or her friends, after all.
Spying is for keeping the peasants in line.

But mark my words, we will hear of a lone NSA director fired for illegal surveillance before long.
Fall on your sword, sir, for the good of the liars.
