Cruz in Iowa claims shutdown got people talking

Source: AP-Excite

By THOMAS BEAUMONT and CATHERINE LUCEY

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Texas Sen. Ted Cruz argued to influential Iowa Republicans Friday that the partial government shutdown he helped precipitate this month was a success despite a compromise that reopened the government and ultimately funded the health care law he has made his name fighting.

His reason: It got people talking.

"One of the things we accomplished in the fight over Obamacare is we elevated the national debate over what a disaster, what a train wreck, how much Obamacare is hurting millions of Americans across this country," Cruz told about 600 Iowa Republicans at the state GOP's annual fundraising dinner in Des Moines.

Cruz's crusader's spirit was the perfect example of what longtime Republicans in Iowa and nationally say is at the root of the party's losing ways and has sparked an intraparty fight over the way forward after consecutive losing presidential elections.

Both events were at full capacity, she spoke at Colgate and the University of Buffalo.

Rafael only attracts the RW extremely batty crowd. Mainstream Republicans give him a wide berth.

And the RW AP continues to publish bullshit misinformation. The appropriations process and approval of the current Continuing Resolution to end the government shutdown had nothing to do with the funding of the ACA, which is primarily self-funded and mandatory spending.

What they SHOULD have written was this - "reopened the government because the health care law's funding was never and would never be impacted by a lapse of funding for the government's discretionary-funded programs".

"Texas Sen. Ted Cruz argued to influential Iowa Republicans Friday that the partial government shutdown he helped precipitate this month was a success despite a compromise that reopened the government and ultimately funded the health care law"

This is what is wrong with the press. There was no compromise to open the government and it wasn't because of the fit they threw regarding the ACA. The ACA was already funded and it didn't take any sort of fucking compromise. The republicans got nothing for their fit. It's law so why are the writers of this AP piece putting shit into the story that doesn't exists. They got something right though, Ted Cruz pretty much caused it.

to uphold the Constitution. The Supreme Court had already ruled that the ACA was constitutional. Why aren't all these pricks in jail?

The consensus among fellow senators, the media and the American people at large, is that this narcissist is a major asshole.

Perhaps more surprising, the clapping only lasted 40 seconds, and the reception was more polite than electric. A week ago, Cruz got an eight-minute standing ovation upon his return to Texas.
