Court Win For Pro-Joe Lhota PAC Fighting New York Contribution Limits

Source: NY Daily News

The Second Circuit ruled Thursday that a political action committee created last month by out-of-state GOP operatives can accept contributions above the $150,000 annual donation limit for individuals set by state law.

The New York Progress and Protection Political Action Committee had sued the state Board of Elections last month, arguing the $150,000 cap violated its right to advocate for Lhota via television ads.

The PAC cited Citizens United, the 2010 U.S. Supreme Court decision that lifted restrictions on independent expenditures by corporations and committees on grounds of free speech.

It requested a preliminary injunction allowing it to ignore the state limit until its case was decided.

Democracy , ah it may be in mourning.
But there is joy in Lhota-ville this morning.
The developers will have a field day, for sure.
As they fill Lhota's coffers to the brim, and more.
They build their obscene playgrounds for the rich,
that scar the sky.
While the hungry and hopeless, struggle and die.
Disposable wealth , the disposable poor.
She still lifts her lamp beside the golden door.
But nowadays....we just don't need you anymore.
