Obama: Fate Of Immigration Reform Rests With House GOP

Source: Talking Points Memo

President Barack Obama on Thursday said that the fate of comprehensive immigration reform, supported by activists and the business community alike, rested with House Republicans, urging Congress to take up the issue by the end of the year.

"It's up to Republicans in the House to decide whether reform becomes a reality or not," Obama said at a White House event. "Republicans in the House, including the speaker, have said we should act. So let's not wait."

"Let's see if we can get this done," he added. "And let's see if we can get this done this year."

Just like the shutdown, the only reason it hasn't passed despite the obvious policy urgency behind it is that Boehner is more interested in appeasing the nutjobs in his caucus than in doing what's best for the country.

If he brings it up for a vote, it passes and becomes law.

Boner comes on and says: "We're all for immigration reform."

Democratic response (can't remember who it was): "Well, ya know, it's hard, and another thing, because that's just it, and, uh, um, we need to -- well, what I'm trying to say is -- ya know, about immigration and all . . ."

No wonder we can't pin it on them. Ours are incompetent.

I don't think anything has been put forward in either House.
