Statement on Bipartisan Senate Agreement to Reopen Government, Avoid Default

Source: Office of the House Speaker

WASHINGTON, DC – House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement regarding the bipartisan Senate agreement to reopen the federal government and avoid a national default:

“The House has fought with everything it has to convince the president of the United States to engage in bipartisan negotiations aimed at addressing our country's debt and providing fairness for the American people under ObamaCare. That fight will continue. But blocking the bipartisan agreement reached today by the members of the Senate will not be a tactic for us. In addition to the risk of default, doing so would open the door for the Democratic majority in Washington to raise taxes again on the American people and undo the spending caps in the 2011 Budget Control Act without replacing them with better spending cuts.

With our nation's economy still struggling under years of the president's policies, raising taxes is not a viable option. Our drive to stop the train wreck that is the president's health care law will continue. We will rely on aggressive oversight that highlights the law's massive flaws and smart, targeted strikes that split the legislative coalition the president has relied upon to force his health care law on the American people.”

and that President Obama's policies are digging us out. If we could have skipped the 8 years between Clinton and Obama, our country and the world, would be so much better off.

WTF reality does this guy live in. TAXES HAVE INCREASED REGARDLESS, it's called inflation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Meanwhile, real taxes have also risen in localities to make up for loss of revenue from joblessness, at the same time, TAXES HAVE PLUMMETED ON HIGH EARNERS.

This bohner needs to take a look at real America, not through his rosy glasses, but while walking the streets of Detroit, Oakland and kingston. Talk to the people a little whydonchya, they have a different story to tell than BOHNERS version.

I just love the new rationale for caving -- "we have to go along with this, or the Democratic majority would raise your taxes!!!!!" Uh, how could the Big Bad Democrats raise taxes without the Republican-controlled House voting to do the same? But thanks for acknowledging there's a Democratic majority, since that seemed the one thing you have tried to ignore all along.

His side lost. They lost the election of 2012, they lost in 2008, they
lost today, they lost because they're obstructionists for a political
viewpoint that is incompetent, mean-spirited, maniacal, and just
plain stupid.

did anyone else here notice that not one time in the four times boehner referenced the office of the (ahem) President of the United States, not once did he capitalize "president."

could these people possibly get more petty?

like insisting it's the "democrat party."

are they even potty trained??
