McCain: 'Republicans Have To Understand We Have Lost This Battle'

Source: TPM

TOM KLUDT – OCTOBER 16, 2013, 6:35 AM EDT

With the government shutdown in its third week and the United States poised to reach its borrowing limit, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) urged members of his party on Tuesday to stop digging.

“It’s very, very serious,” McCain said, as quoted by the New York Times. “Republicans have to understand we have lost this battle, as I predicted weeks ago, that we would not be able to win because we were demanding something that was not achievable.”

Efforts to raise the debt ceiling and reopen the shuttered government unraveled on Tuesday, with House Speake John Boehner's (R-OH) proposals shot down by his conservative caucus.

The budget and debt crises were brought about by a campaign to gut the Affordable Care Act, a movement that McCain and other veteran Republicans decried as quixotic. In an interview last week with Fox News, McCain said repeatedly that Republicans are to blame for the shutdown.

Not with legislative battles, not with elections. This is exactly why we no longer have politics as we know it, or democracy as we know it.

There was nothing to win or lose; no battle, other than manufactured in their pea brains... The country just needed the congress to sign the check to pay its bills.

The tea bagger dunces didn't get that, no surprise there, but McCain? He's been in the senate forever and knows S.O.P.

and now, just as so many times in the past few years, they've lost again.
Their next trick will probably be to make sure their finances are ready for a collapse, so they can take it all the way to default and beyond.

and AGAIN, and AGAIN! They will hold the American economy hostage. They are ready and willing, and if they were able to succeed in doing so, they would. Period.
