White House rejects House debt-limit proposal

Source: WaPo

Speaking after the markets closed, White House press secretary Jay Carney welcomed a "new willingness" among congressional Republicans to open the government and avoid default but said the president would not agree to tie budget negotiations to a six-week debt-limit extension. "What we think is not the right way to go is to try again to link extension of the debt ceiling to budget negotiations, and therefore link the possibility of default to whether one side gets what it wants in those negotiations."

Carney's statement came after President Obama spoke by phone with House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio). Boehner's office issued a terse statemement, saying they agreed "that we should all keep talking."

I am Barack Obama and I AM the President of the United States of America.
I only have one job. That is protecting the United States of America. That includes the credit and full faith of our country.
It includes all of the citizens. It includes all the branches and departments. As I have stated I will
not negotiate with terrorists. I am invoking the 14th Amendment.

To that end I have just ordered the government shutdown to be declared null and void. This shutdown is over. I have ordered
the Department of Treasury to pay in full and on time all financial obligations of the country. I have just ordered all departments
to open and operate at 100% on Saturday, October 12th, or Monday 10/14 if that is their regular hours. All federal workers are report to work for their normal shifts. Their pay and benefits will be reinstated and retroactive.

As Commander in Chief, I am declaring Martial Law. I have ordered the Department of Homeland Security to apprehend
and deliver every member of the House of Representatives to the House Chamber. Where they will be secured until they
have reached the following agreement:

1. they acknowledge the end of the shutdown.
2. they end the sequester.
3. they scrap the continuing resolution
4. they eliminate the debt ceiling permanently
4. they agree to the last budget submitted.

They will not be permitted cell phones, media coverage, cspan coverage, food, water, or bathrooms. The electricity will
be discontinued, the heating and cooling will be discontinued, and candles will be supplied. And I will lift Martial Law the
moment this agreement is approved by the senate and I sign it. They held the government hostage for 10 days, and now
the government will hold them hostage.

This is a democracy, where elections are binding and honored, even the most contested ones. When this hostage situation
is over, they may weep and wail and beat their breast in person, in the media at every opportunity, but they will have to wait until the election of 2014 to convince the majority of the voters to make them the majority in the government. Until then they will have to acknowledge they are a minority and cannot throw a fit when they don't get their way. Their policies have been rejected twice, and they must stand down. As President I must end this disruptive tactic once and for all. Not just for this administration, but for
all future administrations.

The righties would explode. All their greatest fears realized.

I think President Obama will choose a less confrontational path, for better or worse.
