(CA Gov.) Brown vetoes bill banning semi-automatic rifles

Source: Associated Press

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Gov. Jerry Brown has vetoed a bill that would have banned future sales of most semi-automatic rifles that accept detachable magazines, part of a firearms package approved by state lawmakers in response to mass shootings in other states.

The governor announced signing other gun-related legislation on Friday but rejected the centerpiece bill, which would have imposed the nation's toughest restrictions on gun ownership.

I don't think AB 48 will affect any grandfathered 30-round magazines, since petronius Oct 2013 #6

Lead is out. 30-round mags are out.

Stupid over-reaching any-rifle-with-a-magazine ban VETO!

I don't understand the second veto, but I'll be it's reasonable, possible unrelated to the DUI aspect but not sure.

I'm delighted that he clearly thought these over.

Just upland bird/ducks, or all game, including deer?

What's the alternative for deer, if so? Solid copper?

... it's more expensive than lead. Dunno if there are any long-term studies on the health impact of bismuth in the environment (or in meat).

A steel arrowhead is another good alternative to a bullet.

The SCOTUS is hearing a case this term regarding misdemeanors as disqualifying crimes....

I think he wants to let them sort it out before adding any more to the list.

that part of the bill was contingent on SB 396 passing first, and SB 396 never got out of the Legislature. So all AB 48 bans is 'conversion kits', which the bill defines as "...a device or combination of parts of a fully functioning large-capacity magazine, including, but not limited to, the body, spring, follower, and floor plate or end plate, capable of converting an ammunition feeding device into a large-capacity magazine."

Maybe that's aimed at repair kits for existing >10 round magazines - so that the magazines will gradually go away as they wear out?
