Lessee, cuts to military spending, or cuts to what seniors and poor people will have to spend on food?
I keep thinking I will see a picture of assorted government folks standing in front of a microphone, on a stage , surrounded by cases of green peas. GMO peas. In BPA-lined cans.

I thought Obama was not going to accept any cuts at this time.

It was very effective.

Our group of FURLOUGHED FAA AVIATION SAFETY INSPECTORS met passengers as they got out of cars and headed for their airplanes.

We asked them where they were flying, and then if they knew that FAA Inspectors had been furloughed ten days ago.

And, oh yeah, would like like to use our Cell Phone here to call their Congressman that we have on speed dial, and ask them to put federal workers like us back to work, so that their flight has a better chance of not crashing.

I heard John Boehner and Eric Cantor heard about our people picketing and went straight to the White House to try and make a deal.

SOLIDARITY WITH ALL FURLOUGHED FEDERAL WORKERS!

the aviation inspectors?

That's crazy!

It's less likely that there would be a terrorist attack than that there would be a plane malfunction that the airline would miss or ignore.

That's downright stupid.

Or am I, hopefully, wrong? Did they think a bit and furlough Homeland Security airport folks before they furloughed the aviation safety staff?

They have to drop the gun and kick it over to the officer; they cannot just tuck it back into the waist-band and drape a shirt-tail over it.

The debt ceiling must be raised by an amount sufficient to ensure it the next Congress which must vote to raise it, and the continuing resolution must be for the full fiscal year --- neither can have any condition attached.

"neither can have any condition attached..."

Just guessing here, but I'd imagine the strings attached are actually strings that have either been previously negotiated and agreed upon prior to the shut-down imbroglio, or strings which are so ineffectual as to be negligible. The point of the strings being simply to allow the GOP to tell their base that "we've won" regardless of how badly they've lost.

Obama has always wanted the "Grand Bargain" with cuts to "earned benefits" ie "chained CPI" probably with no revenue increases as the "Tea Party" demands. This fact is so sad because he has all the power right now, and he should demand at least 1 year of extending the deficit ceiling as that would run into the 2014 election cycle.

Both parties make me sick, but such is life as they say.

We gave them sequestration, through out 2013 many gov't employees suffered through furloughs. We cannot add to the pain. You are right. What is there to negotiate, our backs are against the wall.

Unless it is for simplifying the tax code, I am not sure what Ryan wants....I looked it up for Obama it means:

President Obama’s plan for simplifying the corporate tax code would close loopholes, end incentives to ship jobs overseas, lower the rate for businesses creating jobs right here in America, provide tax incentives for manufacturers that bring jobs home to the United States, and simplify taxes for small business owners.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2013/07/30/plan-simplify-tax-code-businesses-and-give-working-families-better-deal

That could be a bone, would make the conservative loving Chamber of Commerce happy.

But, yes I agree with you, enough is enough or it will never end.

I like your perspective, always better to be on the offensive , but in regards to the budget, I think we have already given up the house and we settled for sleeping in the garage. They can't cut much more more or we are going to be on the street.

This was the real GOP plan as stated by Rand Paul on open mic. Paraphrasing, we wanted defund, gave up and now want to negotiate. I'm sure the Tea Party lost, now it is a fight for second and first place. I just think Obama really has no choice in this fight, he must push back this time, or they will want his resignation after this.

Maybe next time we will make demands.

"Obama, even while insisting that he will refuse to negotiate anything but a clean continuing resolution while the government is shut down, and that he will not talk about concessions either in exchange for raising the debt ceiling, appears to be already doing that, to a degree. He will almost certainly have to do more of it. Even with a six-week extension—which Obama is expected to sign—the GOP is still holding the government "hostage," in the Democrats' favorite description. Adding to the pressure is a provision that the Treasury Department not use "extraordinary measures" to pay down the debt during the extension period; if the president accepts that as well, the approach will look even more extortionate."

This is likely a 5 week bill rather than anything permanent so why would anybody want to agree to pre-conditions for a final budget deal. Obviously, when Obama rejects this the GOP will claim that, see it is Obama who won't open the government. Boehner and the GOP still have the gun to the head of the hostage (American). What part of that don't they understand.

House GOP Waiting On Obama After Submitting New Debt Limit Plan

CAITLIN MACNEAL – OCTOBER 11, 2013, 10:56 AM EDT3149

House Republicans submitted a new plan for raising the debt limit to President Barack Obama Thursday at 10 p.m., and are awaiting a response, according to Politico.

The latest proposal would raise the debt ceiling through Nov. 22 and fund the government until Dec. 15, Politico reports. This would then prompt budget talks in aims of reaching a broader deal on spending and debt.

Republican leaders in the House met with Obama Thursday evening, but did not reach a concrete deal during those talks.

Do they have their heads up their asses?

The President and the leader of the Senate have said
1. Re-open the government with a clean CR WITHOUT ANY conditions
2. Raise the debt limit without conditions so we can continue to pay our debts
3. Then and ONLY THEN, will anyone sit down with you to starve the government even more than it is starved today under the sequester.

The annual budget deficit is shrinking faster than at any time in the past 60 years thanks to economic growth achieved without ANY help from the GOP. Yes we have budget issues to face and those include how we proceed with so-called "entitlements" but also policies on energy, tax (which includes eliminating the give-aways to profitable businesses), etc.

They just don't get it...They lost the last election by (a) Not getting Mittens into the White House, (b) Losing seats in the House and (c) Losing 2 seats in the Senate.

The constitutional process for passing the ACA were met with both houses of Congress approving the measure and the President affixing his signature. That made it the law of the land.

Challenges by various nefarious entities resulted in a decision by the SCOTUS that the law was constitutional.

As a result the law must be implemented. It is the law of the land. The President and the Congress have a constitutional duty to uphold the law of the land. If they want to repeal or change something then win elections.
