Poll: Republicans Badly Damaged by Shutdown Battle

Source: HuffPost, NBC/WSJ

The Republican Party has been "badly damaged" by the government shutdown, according to an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released Thursday evening, which finds public opinion souring on the GOP and some of its core positions.

Americans blamed Republicans over President Barack Obama for the shutdown by a margin of 22 percentage points, with 53 percent saying the GOP deserved more blame, and 31 percent saying Obama did. Approval ratings for the Republican Party and the tea party were at 24 percent and 21 percent respectively -- both record lows as measured by NBC/WSJ.

Democrats aren't wildly popular either. Obama's approval rating is a marginally positive 47 percent, while the Democratic Party is at 39 percent, and congressional Democrats are at 36 percent.

A slim plurality of Americans say Obama should negotiate with Republicans, even before they agree to a deal that reopens the government or raises the debt ceiling. The president's approval has remained stable since the shutdown, and there are signs that Democrats may get a boost from the shutdown's political effects.

this GOP collapse is the by-product of Citizens United. Today its Republicans, but it's still a cautionary tale about the corrupting influence of money on our entire political system.

the degree of decline in support for the Democrats -- from 43 to 37 per cent reflects the failure at the top to highlight, among other factors, AND TO HIGHLIGHT THEM IN MAINSTREAM VENUES AND NOT PRIMARILY TO THE CONVERTED:

(1) How this shutdown was not the product of any breakdown of negotiations between the parties, but was long planned, along with NOT negotiating before the shutdown, many months in advance

(2) the "gerrymandority" enjoyed by the GOP, who not only got 1.4+ million fewer votes in House elections in 2012, but who enjoy huge majorities in SPECIFIC STATES' Congressional delegations where the Democrats either got the majority of votes, or close to even with the Republicans -- such as WI, MI, OH, PA, VA, and FL, all carried by Obama, and NC, where the Dems got a majority of the votes for the House, but due to gerrymandering, the GOP has a lopsided majority of the reps. Up to and including the top (Obama) the Democrats should be highlighting this issue, and the states as focal points

Boehner in the back and take over as speaker. Boehner is a relatively decent human being. Cantor is a slimy piece of shit.

Have you ever noticed that almost every time Boehner speaks, Cantor is always edging in to make sure his smirking mug gets on camera as well? Creep.
