Boehner: Democrats Want to ‘Annihilate Us’
Source: National Review
Speaker John Boehner rallied his troops this morning at a closed-door conference meeting at the Capitol. Democrats are trying to annihilate us, he told his members. We can get through this if we stick together.
The Ohio Republican added that a grand bargain is off the table. What he wants is something that builds on the gains weve made over the past three years, puts points on the board, and doesnt raise taxes.

So, hold your vote on a clean CR. If you win, you'll show you're in charge of the House. If you lose, the economy will recover. What could go wrong?

(4,305 posts)In the jargon of the therapist training of my youth, to "project" is to suspect others around you of the same aggressive feelings you have for them or the same aggressive actions you are thinking of doing to them. These people seem to me to constantly accuse others of plotting the vicious actions which they themselves are trying to achieve. Actually, if we can stay alert, this fault of theirs may prove to be a useful defense against their depredations.

(8,756 posts)We, the Democratic party and liberals have quite a lot of responsibility for staying home in 2010. That includes the youth who showed up for Obama in 2008 but didn't in 2010. 2010 was a census year, and the R's knew it. They pulled out all the stops to win that year alone so they could take advantage of redrawing the map and give themselves a permeant place in national politics for a decade. Nobody in the Democratic party leadership even considered this. A few, here and one or two other places, clamored about how lame the Democrats were in the 2010 cycle. We lost, they won, and they got the spoils.
Now we get to live with these nuts till 2020. Or until they burn themselves down.
The truth is, that was a do-or-die election for them. They needed gerrymandering to stay relevant. They're on the wrong side of every social issue in America. They've screwed the pooch with every minority group, women, and the young. They're 50-50 with the middle class and white males in general. The party is increasingly male, old, white, and moneyed. To sum up, they have no growth. Plus, thanks to hitching their wagon to the bible thumpers down South, they've doomed themselves to be a regional party loosely collected around the secessionist states and a few highly rural, low population (and mostly white) states.
They had to win in 2010 and redraw the map. The party of Lincoln is long dead, the Confederates have their last laugh on our greatest President, they took over his party. Speaking of, if you look a Republican rhetoric and compare that to that great racist John C. Calhoun, and his pals, you'll find many of the same ideas and words. The Republican party is rapidly becoming a neo-Confederate party.

(8,756 posts)Democracy thrives on difference of opinion and conversation. If everybody is parroting the same thing, then democracy is dead. How would America function with one party? It wouldn't.
Also 'annihilation' is overly bellicose and violent. I will not advocate any kind of violence on those I disagree with.
I'll fight them in the polls, I'll fight them with words, I'll try to win everybody over I can to my liberal view. But I will never advocate annihilation, destruction, or any other type of silence or censorship of those I disagree with. Even if they're loony wackos like Michelle Bachman.
The Weeping Cheeto's use of words say everything about the man. He thinks he is facing annihilation, and he probably is -- for his personal political career. But who's fault is that? Nobody but him. He painted himself into this corner, he can sit there until the paint dries.

(6,113 posts)Understandably, Speaker Orange-Glo has to give his troops some basis for a pep talk, even if it is a complete fabrication. Ironic it is that it comes from the leader of the party that has divided this nation since the days of Tricky Dick's Southern strategy.
Anyone with half a brain knows that Democrats don't have to do the annihilating -- that's being covered by the Tea Party Confederate Cauc-ass.

(45,984 posts)In this case, the Devil is the Koch brothers.
To us, the Koch Brothers may seem like Satan in his monstrous aspect: diabolical, anti-democratic, corporate fascists. However, for the Republicans, they are the agents of the Devil in his amusing, folksy aspect of the trickster god. This Devil gives the Republicans unlimited amounts of cash, but there's a catch: the Republicans have to let the lunatics run asylum. The Tea Party, with the Koch brothers as the Mad Hatter and the March Hare, write a platform that gets attention for all the wrong reasons, alienates any voter who isn't as ideologically pure and just plain stupid as they are, now even to the point where rank and file moderate Republicans are repelled. Boehner puts up with the Tea Party only because he doesn't know what else to do. If he continues to pander to them, the Republicans will face extinction at the polls in 2014; if he tells them to go have carnal relations with themselves, they'll replace him in a heartbeat with Eric Cantor, and then the Republicans will face electoral extinction in 2014. Either way, John Boehner is finished and the Republicans are going to spend a long time in the political wilderness.

(57,936 posts)And if Boehner gets his cuts to Social Security, it will be the end not only of the Republican Party but of the DLC. Good riddance to both. We have to start working together as a nation, not working each ONLY for his or her own profit. The Republican philosophy is unworkable and doing their party in. The Republican philosophy is destroying the Republican Party.
We Democrats are just watching them fall. We didn't gerrymander their districts for them. They did that. We did not adopt their unpopular stances on all kinds of issues. They did that.

(19,373 posts)For the record, I don't really want to see your party annihilated, it's a good thing to have an opposition party with legitimate and well thought out positions. Unfortunately your current party has neither, so evolve or go the way of the rotary telephone; useful in it's day but hopelessly obsolete now.
