Devin Nunes accuses Ted Cruz of lying about shutdown

Source: The Desert Sun (Palm Springs, CA)

Rep. Devin Nunes, a conservative Republican from California’s Central Valley, on Monday accused freshman GOP Sen. Ted Cruz of lying to House Republicans that they could dismantle the Democratic health care reform law known as Obamacare by forcing a government shutdown.

Nunes, R-Tulare, said the strategy pursued by Cruz, a Texas freshman, and to a lesser extent Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, is “based on a false premise” because Republicans can’t get two-thirds votes in the House and the Senate to override President Barack Obama’s veto when he rejects any bill that ends his signature law.

Obama and the Democratic-majority Senate have refused to entertain any legislation passed by the GOP-majority House that would overhaul, change, delay or end the health care law. The partial shutdown is nearly a week old with no deal to end it in sight.

Nunes said Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has run into a wall of opposition from Cruz’s House allies to any shutdown-averting deal.

If he's that gullible he doesn't belong in congress. Or else he's lying his ass off in which case he doesn't belong in congress.

Jeez, if I still lived where I grew up, this dumbass would be my congresscritter. (Not that the one I have now is any better).

How is that something the GOP could not figure out? Did they think overriding a veto needed 40 votes?

I'm from around there (Yosemite) and I would say that he is unequivocally correct in his implied assumption regarding the overwhelming majority of the voters who elected him. They make pond scum seem like intelligent life forms.

I sent my Rep, Tom McClintock, an email (his district is right next to Nunes') urging him to vote to fund the government. He sent me back an email inviting me to write him back with stories about how the ACA has thus far ruined my life (and that was back before it even had taken effect). He knows exactly which buttons to push in order to prevent the unthinkable possibility of any clear thinking emerging from the minds of his constituent's.

Upon edit to add: I'm sorry. In my last sentence I implied that his constituents who voted for him actually have minds; something that I have yet to encounter in any of them.

Fresno is turning blue, and this clownshow is going to seriously hurt the size of their base (in several counties),
and, most importantly, the interests of their biggest financial supporters (who fund both parties conservatives)
I think I'll enjoy watching this one circling the commode.

Do ya think!? I guess math and logic aren't Nunes' strong suits. Then again, he is a Teapublican. I shouldn't be all that surprised.

And he should do his job and not try to run the House. It should be Boehner but this, he is not strong enough. Cruz is a dictator wannabe and Congress should be backing him down, he has caused more damage than he can ever repair.

...expressing their outrage and shock! that Teddy Boy misled them. Yeah, Teddy is a dictator wanna be that that doesn't mean you have to actually obey him like a lemming hurtling towards the cliff.
