Montana Democrats Get Senate Candidate.

Montana Lt. Gov. John Walsh will run for the U.S. Senate in 2014, his campaign said Thursday, giving Democrats the high-profile candidate they've been scrambling for in a bid to keep the seat they've held for decades.
Walsh plans to tell supporters Thursday morning that he will run for the office that has been the focus of a great deal of speculation since Sen. Max Baucus announced earlier this year that he will retire at the end of 2014.
An advance copy of the announcement provided to The Associated Press said the 52-year-old former Montana National Guard commander is running because Washington needs more leaders with a "sense of duty" to do what's right.
"Too many lawmakers back in Washington put their own agendas ahead of their responsibility to their constituents and to all Americans," Walsh's statement said. "They put their political party, and their personal careers ahead of the people they are supposed to be representing. They've forgotten their obligations and responsibilities."

(130,918 posts)He worked for the Montana National Guard for thirty years. In this capacity he led 1st Battalion, 163rd Infantry Regiment in combat in Iraq. He earned the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He also led operations of over 2,000 Guard members during Montana's 2000 wildfires.

(22,057 posts)Thanks to a number of tipsters, we now know a bit more about Mr. Dirk Adams, announced candidate (Democrat) for the U.S. Senate.
Adams attended the Gallatin County Democrats most recent meeting in Bozeman. After Adams addressed the gathering of Democrats, he took questions and his answers didnt sit well with the crowd. Adams said that he agrees with the Citizens United decision and opposes raising the minimum wage. What? Why is this guy running as a Democrat? Steve Daines could have some serious competition for the right-wing vote.
And what is up with the name of his campaign committee? Committee to Elect Dirk S. Adams, a Montana Rancher, to the U.S. Senate really? It should probably actually read Committee to Elect Dirk S. Adams, Not a Banker, to the U.S. Senate

(645 posts)And all the retirements, I am optimistic about this one though. We've had a pretty good run of winning a good number of statewide races in recent years and the state is trending blue.
