Air Force-Navy will play Saturday despite shutdown

Source: AP

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — The Air Force-Navy football game will be played Saturday after receiving the approval of the Department of Defense.

Naval Academy public information officer Commander John Schofield confirmed the decision Wednesday night.

The DOD suspended sports competition at the service academies on Tuesday due to a partial government shutdown stemming from the budget impasse in Congress. But funding for the game on Navy's home field is provided by non-government funding.

They don't want to have "their base voters" suffer under their hostage situation. Shut it down!

than we do from all those fancy war toys.

The absolute best example of productive military spending, however, remains the New Orleans-based U.S. Navy Steel Band. Good thing this didn't happen during Mardi Gras!

Do you hold that standard to the academies as a whole or just their sports programs?

Republicans fake concern about funding for children with cancer but opt instead to pay for a football game? Sounds like some folks definitely have their priorities skewed. Maybe Dana Bash could ask John Boner what he thinks is more important of the two.

Probably MWR money (food and beverage concessions at the games, souvenirs, and ticket sales--none of that is "government" money) and maybe even alumni contributions to the program are what is carrying the day.
