Some members of Wash. delegation to forgo pay

Source: AP

Published: October 1, 2013

OLYMPIA, Wash. — So far, three members of Washington state's congressional delegation say they will give up their pay during the federal government shutdown that began Tuesday.

Reps. Derek Kilmer and Suzan DelBene, both Democrats, and Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, have all confirmed that they will forgo their salary for the duration of the shutdown. Members of the House and Senate make $174,000 a year, and those in leadership roles, like Sen. Patty Murray, make more.

While the three will automatically be paid during the time, they will return the amount equitable to their salary to the U.S. Department of Treasury. Since March, DelBene has already been returning 8.2 percent of her salary each month to Treasury in response to across-the-board budget cuts, known as sequestration, that were done earlier this year.

Kilmer and DelBene announced their decision on Twitter, and a spokeswoman for the House Republican Conference confirmed McMorris Rodgers' stand by email.

Anyone who makes less than $100K per year and considers themselves a republican. Its like they don't get that that party would piss on them to get whatever they want for their rich ACTUAL constituents.

And she's not making any friends back home. They use her like a prop and she is too stupid to realize she is not part of the "in crowd" just a stereotypical stooge used to dress the set.

The hundreds of thousands of federal workers didn't have the opportunity to voluntarily forgo their salaries. They were told, you're furloughed. In some cases, they have to work without pay, in others they just go home.

Every single member of congress should be required to work without pay during the shutdown, with no - repeat no - payment of the lost salary when this Republican-made crisis ends.

They wanted a shutdown. Let's have a shutdown - 100%. No post offices, no VA care, no food inspection, no military, no intelligence, no export/import processing. Nothing.
