Senate nixes House-passed funding bill as clock ticks towards shutdown

Source: NBC

With just hours to go before a midnight deadline, the Senate swiftly nixed a House-passed government funding proposal late Monday, tossing the legislation back to the lower chamber with unusual speed as the nation careened towards a federal shutdown.

Shortly after receiving the House proposal to fund the government and delay a key provision of the president's health care law, the Senate voted along party lines to send the bill back to the House for a last-ditch effort at meeting a midnight deadline to keep the government's lights on.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on the Senate floor before the vote that Republicans "have lost their minds" by repeatedly voting for "ridiculous policy riders" destined for failure in the Democratically-controlled Senate.

Asked what he can ‘offer’ towards a compromise – especially once the debate shifts to the debt ceiling -- Obama insisted he should not have to negotiate over the issue. “I shouldn't have to offer anything,” he told radio host Steve Inskeep. “They're not doing me a favor by paying for things that they have already approved for the government to do. That's part of their basic function of government, that's not doing me a favor.”

Means little to nothing... The Advisory Board has zero authority to do anything other than offer opinions. That strikes me more as a "keep your enemies closer" move... put someone into a position that seems to have some value but not enough to actually matter... a window dressing position really.

All that aside, Frankly, there are more important matters than an advisory board member... there are service members still dieing over seas, people starving and dieing stateside due to lack of food and medication, corporations subverting your rights, paycheck and health care left right and center... oh and lets not forget, the government shutdown that will literally cost the American People billions in personal funds.

Yeah... sorry, an advisory board nominee pales in comparison.

who obviously will amendment it again to delay or defund Obamacare and send it back to the Senate. Americans probably are realizing that these folks are insane, if they didn't already know.

and flying them downstairs for approval. Parents keep saying no and are quick to get that message back up the stairs but hard-headed kids don't know their requests are stupid.

He had some powerful nut cracking skills and knew just how to scare the bejeezus out of any congressman who looked at him cross eyed.
