(39,154 posts)If the military is paid, the Rs have no reason at all to avoid a shut down. So no, not happy the fascists have won again.

(2,165 posts)I'm considering just exactly how I'm going to make my mortgage and groceries if this drags out very long. What I won't do though, is hate on those Military members or other Federal employees who are going to continue being paid through the shutdown. I don't see that as a win for the "fascists".

(39,154 posts)And why is the appearance of heartlessness so bad? Shouldn't the appearance reflect the emotional reality? Put another way, how much effort are we supposed to into our constructed identities? And just how much do you think my appearance of an a particular emotional state will effect national politics?
Gawd, what a revealing post.
I was just wondering about that. Couldn't figure out how you could furlough a soldier on active duty.

(4,407 posts)It would be pretty bad to not pay the dudes that got sent far away, but if this pays all millitary, that kind of annoys me. Here we are with one party deep into the crack pipe, messing up the whole country if not the world, so one way or another we can't spend money on program to help people. But by God no matter what the fuck happens, the millitary gets paid! Does this include contractors? Does this include the order for more tanks as per the Daily SHow segment with Al Madrigal in "Tanks, tanks, tanks?"
At the end of the day, it's the taxpayers forking over the dough like a whorish ATM to pay the millitary, so keeping us alive and able to pay taxes just makes good sense. Blowing up your ATM is generally a bad idea.

(2,165 posts)Lots of DoD civilians like me will be getting furloughed. Contractors will depend on where the money that funds the contract comes from. My understanding is the shutdown will not affect anyone who's position is funded from non-appropriated funds.

(28,941 posts)That should more than cover that tank. But if that doesn't satisfy, guess the kids of stateside dudes and dudettes can just go hungry. That will certainly ensure no more tanks are built.
Clue phone: The gov't does not supply free food to the families of military personnel.

(25,592 posts)I'm thinking Obama appointing Republicans is in itself contributing to the current problem.
But when you point it out around here, they either ignore you or get upset because you hate Obama, which they think is irrational because Obama has a (D) by his name, so therefor can do no wrong.
Yeah, it's irrational alright, but what is irrational is Obama's appointments, not the criticism of them.

"The board is independent and its membership is bipartisan. Although the president nominates members, the nominees alternate between the political parties. This vacancy was for a Republican member, a White House aide explained, and Chen was actually the pick of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). "

people seem to miss that and families on the brink. It's all "the president is a Republican, No he's not, he's doing what he needs to do to win at 7th dimension chess.
Nothing about children, families, people who have been suffering this whole time, with things getting even worse for them, here in the fucking USA.
fuck.

(5,624 posts)would appear they'll get paid. I'm happy for them. Now let's hope the Gropers pass a bill for the rest of us that won't be getting paid after midnight. If being furloughed do to the automatic cuts that kicked in wasn't bad enough, this will surely finish some of my coworkers off financially. Three years of no cost of living and no award incentives beginning tomorrow for FY14....well, I regret giving 27 yrs of my life to Uncle. Another fight for the debt ceiling coming, then another CR.....it never ends.

(4,868 posts)I support this. I am anti war 99.5% of the time and probably one of the furthest left leaning posters on this board.
I also have a sister with two kids and a husband in the Army who live paycheck to paycheck. 1,800 dollars a month is already hard enough to get by on.
From a political standpoint if you think Obama vetoing paychecks for troops would be beneficial you're fucking insane.
