Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, leader of the conservative crusade to defund the Affordable Care Act, said on NBCs Meet the Press Sunday the Senate needs to act to avert a partial government shutdown.
In my view, (Senate Majority Leader) Harry Reid should call the Senate back in today
Theres no reason the Senate should be home on vacation.

Starting last Tuesday, Cruz held the Senate floor for 21 hours to dramatize his effort to block Obamacare.
Late Saturday night the House passed two amendments to the Senate spending bill, one to delay the implementation of Obamacare for a year, the other to repeal the tax on medical device manufacturers that was included in the Affordable Care Act to help offset the cost of expanded insurance coverage.

The fact that the corporate media even lets Cruz spew this bullshit is what enables Republicans. Cruz engaged in 21 hour stall tactics, then delayed the vote again on Thursday, now he expresses outrage at Senator Reid claiming that Democrats are delaying a vote on funding the federal government.

(17,387 posts)Corporate media journalists interview right wingers like Ted Cruz and let him spew lies without challenge. Then, corporate media blames Democrats for confusion that ensues. And, as we seen early in the Obama administration, if Democrats complain about right wing bias, the corporate media than complains about Democratic efforts to intimidate the media.

(32,610 posts)That is the real issue. Dems think the citizens are smart enough to figure it out without any help. They are wrong.

(17,387 posts)Any politician, Republican or Democrat, would give their right arm to be on TV. But there is a reason why you always see right wingers on television. There is a reason why Bernie Sanders can only get on MNBC while Ted Cruz, who is crazy, is in demand. It is not Bernie Sanders, Alan Grason's or Barbara Boxer's fault that that they are not on television. This is corporate media censorship at its most blatant.
This crisis is really being enabled by the right wing corporate media, which refuses to provide a platform for progressive voices.

(20,450 posts)We have no control over it. Even Bill Clinton admitted it today and I was thrilled that he finally said it. Gregory gave Cruz nearly 30 minutes of bullshit-ridden airtime. No tough questions. Softball follow-up. No balance. No hard-hitting challenges.
We do not control the media. That's why you will not see us unless:
(1) There are third-way, DLC Democrat types like Harold Ford, Jr. or Ed Rendell, milquetoast, weak cowardly fuckers who tend to side with Republicans.
or
(2) Liberal Democrats who disagree with Obama or have a personal vendetta against him like Cornel West or his sidekick Tavis Smiley who are only invited to these shows to be used to demonstrate how everyone--even liberals--hate Obama.

(30,058 posts)Of those hours lies squarely on Cruz's shoulders. How long has Congress known Tuesday is was approaching and they took a long summer vacation. I wonder if these delays are really from the lack of ability to do their job.

(5,165 posts)There was a time when Meet The Press was a real press conference. Lawrence Spivak, later Bill Monroe, would ask the tough questions and wouldn't hold any punches back. But when Asskissing Tim Russert got the gig, it just became another asskissing gig for Republicans.

(25,111 posts)on this one. One even said that they are gonna attack Obamacare in every single debit bill that they do in the house. Obsession is not healthy for the USA people. These people are obsessed and that is a sickness. Cruz thinks he is the new master of the GOP. He's going down hard as well.
McCarthyism is alive and well in the GOP party.
