WASHINGTON Nebraskans on both sides of the Keystone XL pipeline debate squared off on Capitol Hill Thursday.
Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb., chairman of a House subcommittee that deals with manufacturing, called the hearing to highlight the five years that have passed since TransCanada first filed a permit application for the politically charged project.
Dennis Houston, president and CEO of the Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce, testified that his community had a positive experience with TransCanada when it was constructing the first Keystone pipeline in that part of the state.
He said the company brought 750 new jobs to the area and became the area's third largest employer for the five months it was building the project. He said that produced a $10 million impact.
