Syria resolution likely to fail, Lindsey Graham says

GREENVILLE, S.C. South Carolina's senior senator continued to argue for U.S. military intervention in Syria in a speech to 300 Chamber of Commerce members here while acknowledging his position is unpopular with voters.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., also said Congress is not likely to authorize a strike, predicting a close vote in the Senate where the resolution is likely to come up next week and a larger margin in the House where the timing is less certain.
"God has blessed us," he said Thursday. "It is inconvenient, it is hard, it is complicated, and it can be wearying. But there is no substitute for American leadership."
Graham, whose three opponents in next year's Republican primary are all on record against U.S. action, said he understands Americans are war weary and reluctant to battle again in the Middle East.

Missile strikes based off of FACT that chemical weapons were used = doesn't pass congress.
mind you, we just had drones strike multiple targets within Yemen just two weeks ago without anyone but the president having to approve..

Maybe he and McCain can go sword fight instead... they're both total warmaniacs.

(10,575 posts)He says if there is no U.S. response, Iran will not believe Americas resolve to block Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Graham also says those nuclear weapons in the hands of terrorists could result in a bomb coming to Charleston Harbor.
He says hes working to convince South Carolinians weary of war that the situations in Syria and Iran are linked. Graham says Syria could destabilize the entire Middle East.

(2,730 posts)Lindsey Graham, John McCain and John Kerry all washed up and through with Politics if Obama carries this out. I think if they launch a War and it goes wrong, I can actually see a lot of these Politicains losing their jobs in this country. This is the hole President Obama will sew and don't ex
pect it to be clear sailing for the Democratic Party or Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden in the next Elections. This will be the Top issue in the Elections if it doesn't go as Obama and his supporters of this War expect. It will have an effect on all other issues, including the Debt and the economy. This is now 2013, the U.S. is the only major Power that has started Wars in over a Decade, if you want to look at the real warmongers. They have all been police actions and the U.S. setting some line in the sand. Most of them has involved the Middle East or Muslims, with Israel also involved. It has been led by the U.S. media and Big corporations, especially Oil interests. Ever since the Reagan Era, the U.S. Media has always been up front, leading this country into wars. They have been the arm piece of Wall Street and Big Corporations. They are the constituents the Politicians mostly favor. It is a very corrupted Political system. Obama may not recognize it, but he is creating his own legacy now and it want look as strong as he think. He will just be added to another era of weak leaders, with the U.S. on the decline. Instead of strengthening the social fabric and helping to make living conditions better for all Americans, He is leading this country into more wars that will bankrupt it and take innocent young promising American lives. It is not for America either. The letter by a former veteran, whose life was taken away, needs to be read before the whole Congress before the vote. It needs to be on all their conscious before they destroy more American lives.
