Santorum tells tea party group he'd be willing to break up illegal immigrant families

TUCSON. - Rick Santorum, making rare remarks on immigration before an audience of tea party supporters here, pledged to secure the border and suggested he would be willing to break up families if some members are in America illegally.

To justify his comments, Santorum recalled the experiences of his grandfather, who was separated from his family for five years when he immigrated to America and worked until they were able to join him.

"I understand the heartache of well, what happens if you send people back? They're going to be separated from their family. That's right. America is worth it to do it the right way," Santorum said. "We are a country of laws and the best way you can show your respect for our country is to respect our laws. So, this is not a hostile, this is just who we are. If you want to be part of who we are, then be part of who we are."

The former Pennsylvania senator rarely discusses immigration on the stump. But it affects everyday life in Tucson, 70 miles from the Mexican border, and it is a hot-button issue for Arizona conservatives.

One of the laws that deserves respect makes abortion completely legal in this country. Fuck off, Santorum. No one is buying.

Santorum may be extreme to the point of being unelectable, but that doesn't make him any less dangerous. His over-the-top message seems to generate its own forward momentum, with a barrage of irresponsible statements begging for the next one to be more extreme than the one before it. How much longer before his audience decides that there's been enough talk and not enough "action" (targeted violenece)?

old school wrestler from the 80s barking into the camera like a steroid-raging maniac.

These clowns have already alienated African-Americans, Hispanics and Asians from their party. I cannot wait to see who Rick Santorum goes after next.

Do these people actually think they can get elected by the non-radical GOP lovers of the USA?

I know that wealthy 1%ers are going to donate millions upon millions to these candidates. Do these donors expect some sort of Goebbels brainwashing to take place on television screens across their Amerikkka? I just do not buy into the Koch brothers hype. I just hope that regular Americans do not fall for these games that these millionaires are playing.

I suspect things would be very different if Mexican men had the same option historically.

Wonder what dipshit thinks the difference between his grandfather and a Mexican man who wants a better life for his family is, exactly?

Everything he stands for is anti-Christian and totally counter to not only authentic Christian teachings, but also to the Constitution.

What do you expect from an Opus Dei cultist? Respect for people who don't look and act like him? He's sunk as far as to want unconsitutional bills of attainder and/or decrees criminalizing a civil tort, namely illegal immigration.

(subject refers to how Mitt's dad, former American Motors CEO and Michigan governor George W. Romney, was born in Mexico. Rubio's parents were cuban immigrants)

and i wonder if this audience applauded and cheered with excitement after he talked about breaking up families. but what else do you expect from people who support this bigoted filthy failure of a human being whose conscience vulgarized his own name. i guess if Rick talked in dog whistle with "citizens' rights" (tee hee my idea of sneaky racism) the phrase would go over the teabaggers' heads.

and won't recover for a generation. America's politics will be divided
between openly hostile anti federalist Republican governors and a Democratically
controlled executive and congress.

Even Republican women outside his own wife and the Mrs Duggard will react

Santorum is the nominee. He's loved by the Right. They are absolutely gaga over him. But he is the fringe. There simply are not enough of them for Santorum to win in the general election. This campaign is going to be a battle of the independents. Candidate A wants to decide everything for you. He wants to prevent a gay couple that have been together for 15 years from having a legal ceremony to commit themselves to each other. He wants to stop all abortion, and has serious reservation about other forms of contraceptives. And now we have this latest example of his views. What a winner.
Candidate B needs to come out as moderate. "What do I want? To attract businesses to these shores. I want to increase the level of freedom that you have. How do I feel about sex, in the political sense? I don't give a shit. Gay, straight, in between I don't care. You're consenting adults. I won't do a darn thing to force you to change your life for any power greater than yourself. What I will do is, to the best of my ability, protect your rights as Americans, to make your own choices. You will live with the consequences of those choices, whatever they may be." Ect.
That is what we need. A plain spoken person that will push back. Candidate A wants to control you according to his personal religious beliefs, and makes no apologies for that. Candidate B wants to protect your freedoms. Candidate B not only believes in your right to the pursuit of happiness, he will build the next 4 years of his life to it's protection.
That is what is going to resonate with independent voters. We can talk health care until we are blue in the face. We can talk immigration into the ground. But Obama needs to start using the words 'freedom' and 'liberty' more. I listen to what the folks on the Right say. They count his usage of those words in his speeches. They say that he uses those words 2 or 3 times in a speech, he's not committed to them. They project their own goals of control onto Obama and everyone on the left. For YEARS they have used this stick to hit our side. From Obama to Gore to Kerry to Clinton. They are the side of freedom, we are the side of government control for it's own sake. Let's turn it around on them.
