Lieberman: ‘Our enemies are cheering’ after Obama consulted Congress on Syria
Source: Raw Story
Former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) on Sunday blasted President Barack Obama for asking for Congress approval before launching an attack on Syria over the President Bashar al-Assads alleged use of chemical weapons.
I was looking back, Lieberman told Fox News host Chris Wallace. Over my 24 years, never saw anything like it.
The former senator insisted that the president now had authority to act and that it would be catastrophic if Congress did not give the green light to attack Syria.
Lieberman said that he would urge lawmakers including his amigos, Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) to approve an action in Syria.

(23,403 posts)This man rightly earned nearly universal contempt among Democrats for his servility to Bush and the neocons. Obama should do precisely the opposite of what is recommended by Lieberman.
I feel bad for his wife. I'm sure that soon he will be off to retire with his true loves McCain and Graham - what an awkward threesome...

White House to Congress: Help protect Israel
By: Jonathan Allen
September 1, 2013 07:10 AM EDT
The Obama administration is using a time-tested pitch to get Congress to back military strikes in Syria: It will help protect Israel.
Israels enemies, including Iran and the terrorist group Hezbollah, could be emboldened if Congress fails to approve action against the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, senior administration officials said Saturday.
And for the second day in a row, President Barack Obama publicly cited the threat against Israel if Assads reported use of chemical weapons goes unchecked. It endangers our friends and our partners along Syrias borders, including Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon and Iraq, Obama said Saturday in the Rose Garden. It could lead to escalating use of chemical weapons, or their proliferation to terrorist groups who would do our people harm.
Secretary of State John Kerry also referred to Israel repeatedly as he made the rounds on all five major Sunday morning news shows as well as comparing Assad to Adolf Hitler.

Bush II said Saddam was worse than Hitler.
Now Kerry compares Assad to Hitler.
For Godwin's sake, is there such a paucity of imagination among politicians that everybody bad must be compared to Hitler? Do we have a quota of Hitler similes and metaphors that must be utilized to keep the economy going?

(227 posts)I've been saying it all along, the push to attack Syria is being orchestrated by Karl Rove, Joe Lieberman and lots of other familiar Neocon assholes who want to relive their Iraq "glory days" all over again. You can bet that Rove is scripting many of the embedded internet trolls you see pushing for airstrikes.
But the letterwhich was signed by Elliott Abrams, Fouad Ajami, Max Boot, Ellen Bork, Eliot Cohen, Douglas Feith, Joseph Lieberman, Clifford May, Joshua Muravchik, Danielle Pletka, Karl Rove, Randy Scheunemann, Kristol, Kagan, Senor, and dozens of othersdemands that Obama go further. It calls on the president to provide "vetted moderate elements of Syria's armed opposition" with the military support necessary to strike regime units armed with chemical weapons. That is, the neocons and their allies have CW-ized their pre-existing demand for the United States to arm the rebels.

The right has been screaming to do something about Syria and now, all of a sudden, no one will support him. I am sooooo tired of everything. Just once, I would like to see someone from the Republican party come out in support of our President. Enough is enough. He is black - get over it. (750 posts)Lieberman is lucky for the Republican Party, once a Democratic political, now claims to be an independent, or hopes to attract money. Lieberman only comes out when there is a money opportunity to war profiteer. Something is lined up in the background. There has to be a nifty Cheney Halliburton deal under the radar here.
Creeps like Lieberman only come out of the hole of the Sith Lord when dark money is foaming around Black Water types. The man is the slick master of grease balls and oil slicks, the illness in American Democracy, Lieberman is the consummate chartered icon for political nitwits, corruption, deception, and downright devils destiny grandstanding in every mainstream media chance that brings breath to a Lieberman legacy, cemented with decay, decadence, misery, despair, and most of all Lieberman is the authority of unhappiness.
How that man ever stayed in politics shows the crime America has in political decency. So, that is my rant
It will never be enough. I despise the man and all he represents.

(8,396 posts). . . that this wasn't about taking sides in a civil wat, nor even about declaring Assad to be an enemy. It's about nothing more than "drawing a line" against the use of chemical weapons, right?
And anyway, it seems to me that with respect to Syria, the question isn't who are our enemies, but who, if anyone, are our friends. I'm not convinced either side is.
