Weiner Should Drop Out, NYC Likely Dem Voters Tell Quinnipiac University Pol
Source: Quinnipiac College
Congressman Anthony Weiner drops to fourth place among likely Democratic primary voters in the race for New York City mayor as these likely voters say 53 - 40 percent he should drop out, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
There is almost no gender gap, but a wide racial gap on this question: Women say 54 - 42 percent that Weiner should drop out, compared to men at 52 - 37 percent. But black voters say 53 - 42 percent that Weiner should stay in the race, while white voters say 64 - 25 percent he should get out.
Weiner gets 16 percent of likely Democratic primary voters today, compared to his first- place position with 26 percent in a July 24 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe- ack) University.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn leads the Democratic pack with 27 percent, with 21 percent for Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, 20 percent for former Comptroller William Thompson, 6 percent for Comptroller John Liu and 2 percent for former Council member Sal Albanese, the poll finds. Seven percent of likely Democratic primary voters remain undecided.

I still can't believe that folks actually voted for Vitter and Sanford.

From wikepedia:
During the health care reform debates of 2009, Weiner advocated for a bill called the United States National Health Care Act, which would have expanded Medicare to all Americans, regardless of age.[20][21] He remarked that while 4% of Medicare funds go to overhead,[22] private insurers put 30% of their customer's money into profits and overhead instead of into health care.[23] In late July 2009, Weiner secured a full House floor vote for single payer health care in exchange for not amending America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 (AAHCA) in Committee mark-up with a single-payer plan.[24] When a public health insurance option was being considered as part of America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009, he said it would help towards reducing costs, and set up a website to push for the option.[23] He attracted wide attention when described the Republican Party as "a wholly owned subsidiary of the insurance industry, teaming up with a small group of Democrats to try to protect that industry",[25] and proclaimed in front of Congress in February 2010 that "every single Republican I have ever met in my entire life is a wholly owned subsidiary of the insurance industry."[26]
=============
Weiner fought for us to get single payer in 2009 like NO OTHER CONGRESSPERSON DID. And now big pharma and the insurance industry is trying to kill his career.
Will you stand up for anthony like he stood up for you in 2009?

(14,093 posts)...e-mailed them to strangers, made him lie about it, and then made him do it agin.
He's such a victim in all of this.
Isn't funny how other proponents of health care reform, ones with actual legislative accomplishments (unlike Weiner), don't seem to have this problem?
Anyone still defending Carlos at this point is about as deluded as those Freepers who still think Palin is an election away from a landslide White house win.
And let's not kid ourselves - Weiner is not a progressive. He launched his career on race-baiting and attacking black politicians. He's a neo-Con on Israel-Palestine and makes the bizarre claim that the West Bank is "not occupied," his ego destroyed any attempt at immigration reform, and he joined Ari Fleischer and Mike Huckabee in piling on Helen Thomas and trying to destroy her career.
There's a reason none of the House Dems came to his defense - they saw him for what he was: a faux liberal who knew how to get on TV to advance his career, but who had zero interest in getting anything done.
He's the Dems' version of Michele Bachmann.
And let's not forget Weiner's biggest accomplishment - by fucking up with his scandal, he gave that prick Breitbart a much-needed win to recover from the Shirley Sherrod fiasco.
Carlos lied to progressives like Maddow and Kos and wanted them to go on defense for him. He had no problem having them risk their reputations so he could take more dick pics.
He's a POS and his downfall is well-deserved.

are blue dogs in this race. Weiner's opponents are hacks-in-training, if you want to know what I think. Hell, Schumer is a party hack.
If you actually live in New York, please, disabuse me that they're hacks by showing THEIR records.
There WILL be blue dogs in NY or any state if Repubs watch a successful beat down of Democrats' own over -- shock of shocks! -- dick pics talked up in the media!

(114,904 posts)is a child and easily bullied. well, bully away, but you're still parroting nonsense.
Weiner fucked up his own chances. Of course, long before the sexting scandal, the lying, the expenditure of campaign funds to hire a PI to investigate who hacked into his unhacked account, his rinse and repeat redemption, etc, I thought the guy was a self-promoting phony. Yeah, his voting record is good. So are dozens of his ex-colleagues. But it takes way more than that to be a leader. He accomplished vanishingly little in the House.
He made a spectacle of himself. And what happens when you do that in politics? Issues get flooded away.
He can't survive this and the little twerp hasn't dealt with it effectively. He's nothing now but a pathetic joke.
ancianita
(36,066 posts)I thought the guy had the guts to support the women he worked with in the House by speaking up for women's issues in a male-dominated governmental body.
If you're implying that any videos or CSPAN are insufficient media to witness his leadership in action, you must be implying that that's the only time he appears on camera. How would you know that. Are you one of those invited to sit in the House and watch proceedings he's participated in?
His voting record is better than good. It offsets his two-time fuckup. We'll see how New Yorkers vote. So far enough of them aren't buying into the media hype that you think he's brought on himself. Forgive and forget in the name of moving forward is what we do. There's nothing about his sins that reflects on his political work.
He deserves every label he gets, but he should not be tossed out of the political arena. That's my case.
cali
(114,904 posts)or the dozens and dozens of real progressives in my home state senate and house.
Clearly his stupid behavior, strings of pathetic lies and lame excuses, don't offset his voting record. He'll lose spectacularly. New Yorkers are rejecting him and they'll continue to reject the mendacious stupid slimeball. Polls already reflect that and I'll wager that his slide continues.
There's so much that reflects on his "political work" that your claim made me laugh out loud. It's an amusing delusion. His campaign is "political work" and it's a train wreck of gobsmacking proportions. His behavior directly effected his ability to operate in the political sphere. The media fuss is a direct result of that behavior.
