National GOP committee adds Lee Terry, Tom Latham to 'vulnerable incumbents' list

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Joseph Morton

WASHINGTON — The Omaha-Council Bluffs area looks to be a key battleground in next fall's contest over who controls the House.

The National Republican Congressional Committee announced Monday that it has added nine names to its program for helping vulnerable incumbents, bringing the total to 20.

Two of the new additions were a couple of veterans — Reps. Lee Terry and Tom Latham.

Terry represents Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District, which includes Douglas County and western Sarpy County. Latham represents Iowa's 3rd Congressional District, which covers the southwest quadrant of Iowa, including Council Bluffs.

we would be sitting pretty. We need 16. And I'm loving every blunder by the repukes which makes our job much more easier--especially the F-Ups by the tea baggers. And you know Dems are going to use todays statement from Rancid Penis as campaign material. They just need to dig their hole a little deeper.

That is the best rendition of his name I have ever heard!

On a more serious note, I was thinking the same thing about having just enough seats for a majority. I, along with everyone on DU, would love to see us take back the House and keep the Senate, but unfortunately, I'm a little bit worried about keeping the Senate, especially after Nate Silver's comments. This news about the GOP classifying 20 of their incumbents as "vulnerable" is encouraging.

not enough of those red re-districting and gerrymandering huh. VRA should work wonders ya'know depressing minority voters and all. Gopers are slipping.

Here's crossing fingers that the Dems take back the house so that the house can resume working for all of the American people not just the 1%.

So Lee Terry has a lot of protection there.

Having said that, I would love to see Lee Terry gone. He has represented the money interests of Omaha first and foremost. But that has also meant that Terry has been a back bencher with little on the record to show for his 7 terms in office so he could nonetheless be vulnerable.

Is Keith Rothfus, who holds Jack Murtha's old congressional seat (PA-12), covering Johnstown and suburban Pittsburgh. I have been saying for months that I think the seat is in reach for the Democrats, if we run a good candidate. I continue to maintain that Rothfus winning was a fluke, fueled largely by overwhelming support for Romney in otherwise Democratic areas as a result of the "War on Coal" propaganda.

The Democratic candidate, Mark Critz, only lost by 2 points, and that was with his home county and one of the more populated in the district, Cambria, which is overwhelmingly Democratic, going for Romney by 18%.
