Rep. Steve King (R-IA) Tells Univision Host: Comparing Immigrants To Dogs Is ‘Complimentary’

Comprehensive immigration reform opponent Rep. Steve King (R-IA) on Sunday told a host of the Spanish-language network Univision that his speech comparing immigrants to hunting dogs was intended to be “complimentary.”

Speaking to a crowd in Pocahontas, Iowa in 2012, King had said that the U.S. should only allow the “pick of the litter” when selecting immigrants.

“You want a good bird dog? You want one that’s going to be aggressive? Pick the one that’s the friskiest, the one that’s going to be engaged the most, not the one that’s over there sleeping in the corner,” he explained. “You get the pick of the litter and you got yourself a pretty good bird dog.”

On Sunday, Univision’s Jorge Ramos confronted the congressman about the comparison.

Can you imagine him using that analogy at Liberty?

"Congratulations class of 2014! Y'all are the pick of the litter! Your mamas and your "deddies" wanted a good bird dog so they sent you here! You're the friskiest little ole pup, you're engaged, you ain't sleepin. One day soon I hope y'all take your places in your state legislative bodies and go a huntin' liburals. Follow your teabillie masters and you'll do just fine. That's a good doggie."

Couldn't do it, even if I did believe a comparison with dogs is somehow complimentary. Just couldn't get over my concern that people have feelings and may not see life the same as me.

Yeah, I'd make a terrible bigot . . . and that's alright with me.

Many Hispanics (especially older ones) have lllooong memories.

While I love dogs putting people in the same category as one is about as demeaning as you can get.

Lest anyone forget there used to be public signs that used to say something to the effect of "No dogs or Mexicans allowed". I almost put a pic of one up; in fact, I really wanted to just to show people the ugly truth of the "good old days" but decided it might go against the rules we agree by when we post here. If you want to see pictures of such signs a quick google search will lead you to them.

This clown is oblivious to history.

So smart, so classy, so senatorial and it will really win over the Hispanic vote and those who support human rights for immigrants.

Joking aside, his opponent really should use it
