Virginia Republican: I stand by my attacks on LGBT people as ‘soulless’ and ‘self-destructive’

Source: Raw Story

Virginia Attorney General and Republican candidate for governor Ken Cuccinelli said in a debate on Saturday that he stands by his statements that LGBT people have no souls and are inherently “self-destructive.” According to Think Progress, Democratic candidate and former chairperson of the Democratic National Committee Terry McAuliffe repeatedly demanded to know whether Cuccinelli still agrees with his bigoted statements, but the Republican refused to answer until the question was put to him directly by debate moderator Judy Woodruff.

“My personal beliefs about the personal challenges of homosexuality haven’t changed,” he finally said, but promised to create an economic environment favorable to all Virginians. This in spite of the fact that he has adamantly opposed workplace protections for LGBT Virginians.

Cuccinelli has also gained notoriety for his attempts to ban oral and anal sex among all adults in Virginia. He has campaigned volubly against recognition of same sex marriages in the state, opposing all marriage and partnership benefits for same sex couples on the basis that it would be “certain to harm children.”

The GOP gubernatorial hopeful is so prudish, in fact, that he ordered that the Virginia state seal be redesigned so as to cover the bared breast of the Roman Goddess depicted on it.

This next election is essential, they must be given all the help we can give them. Perhaps some have not been effected by the dirty tricks since 2010.

Another round like this, and they won't even be allowed to vote in 2016 for POTUS. That's how dangerous these guys are. All the signs point that way.

The repugs can gerrymander districts but not whole states so just like the national
election in 2012 the VA statewide governor's race will come down to math that the
republicans just can't win. women voters will not go repug, GLBT voters will not vote
repug, the young will not vote repug, Hispanics will not vote repug, teachers will not
vote repug, environmentalists will not vote repug, the educated (except for the rich) will note
vote repug, African Americans will not vote repug, the poor will not vote repug, and most
unions will not vote repug .... so that will leave old white men as the base of the VA repug
party and that # is shrinking daily.

http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2013/05/20/2034291/virginia-republicans-nominate-rabidly-anti-lgbt-ticket/?mobile=nc

And check the header, O'Reilly, a 'family' group and 'ex-gay' have also come out. The problem is numbers.

The number of LGBT voters is not large enough to vote these people out and Democrats need to ensure that Terry gets the top job there. If not, look at what is coming at that link. This is serious stuff here.

And you can bet Koch dollars are involved, along with all the others who are pushing for a theocracy. What they are doing to minorities, women and the poor in these states supercedes other concerns for me.

The republicans are the minority in many many states and it keeps getting worse
and worse for them ..... that is why "they" have to find why to keep the people from
voting or letting their votes be counted.

LGBT votes + women voters + african americans + union votes + teachers + the youth
vote + ..... and pretty soon you get well past a majority ..... but that is only if you can
get a solid turn out because the old white men and the right wing christians always turn
out.

Americans and humanity as a whole, since despite all claims or lusts for the Great Collapse, many countries follow our lead.

Fusion politics is the only way we will survive this. We have to put our hearts together and do this for everyone, no matter what differences we have, or the politics used to divide us up to stay home or run away.

The idea that it's 'just those red states' is a suicidal luxury, these guys are in every state. And we know that. Time to put aside old knee jerk reactions.

Some may not remember, but the push for civil rights for all was forged in the South, where people had the most to lose and the necessity to push back. Liberals in some areas have sat back and rested on the victories of the past, but they will lose their pride when they ignore the zealotry of libertarians and baggers.

Defeatism and division will give these guys power over our lives like nothing that has been for decades, after so many deaths and work to get us to a better place. GOTV.

Jul 2013

of us, we find it hard to believe that he could know anything about who we are or how we live our lives. We love each other very much and share a wonderful and productive life. My partner has been at his job for 28 yrs and I have been at mine for 26 so we're pretty stable people. We have a home in Los Angeles and a home in Palm Springs, and in both communities, we are pretty well known for our generosity in helping those who are less fortunate than us. We choose not to live in fear, but rather, live to love and share. Although we resent a dirt-bag pig like Mr. Cuccinelli passing judgment on us, or those who are like us without even knowing us, we understand that the man most likely suffers from many varied fears and various religious related phobias. Mr. Cuccinelli is not unlike most Republicans, in that he uses projection, to pass on to others through verbal attacks, that which he is in reality. My partner and I believe that no one is better than us, and that we are no better than any one else, but people like Cuccinelli like to think of themselves as superior to most others who are not like them, when in fact they bigoted, hateful and small minded people. Mr. Cuccinelli practices a form of Christianity that both my partner and I are unfamiliar with, but that many Christians of his ilk seem to practice these days. Although Mr. Cuccinelli has attained a position of power and authority in Virginia, we believe that this man should be nowhere near any position of authority and power, and that the good people of Virginia should come out in droves and vote to keep him from gaining any further control over their state or their lives. And even though my partner and I believe that people should not live their lives in fear, we believe that the good citizens of Virginia, should be very, very afraid of someone like Mr. Cuccinelli and his religious fanaticism, from gaining any further political power in their state, than he has somehow, already managed to attain.

But his description of everyday life is one that needs to be focused upon, not the RWNJ fantasy, which is warped.

I've also noticed for some years, as some at DU have noted, that these conservatives can't get the thought of anal intercourse out of their minds. They assume it is an essential in 'teh gay agenda.'

How many times a day does that cross most people's minds?

Or how many years or entire lifetimes would it never be discussed, any more than the secret lady parts that know how to shut that rapist sperm down?

It falls into my NOMB and TMI category, otherwise known as File 13, every time. Who has the leisure, nay, the desire to delve into such intimate matters that are not part of their own lives even if they are curious yellow, and make them part of public policy?

RWNJs, that's who. But they might get their wittle feelings hurt if we call them that.

Got any kinder terms for them?

doing our best to leave this world better than we found it. Anyone who sits in judgment of a whole segment of society based on irrational fears and fanatical religious beliefs, should be nowhere near the levers of power in this country, and Cuccinelli fits that bill 100%.

54. The man has to deflect
Sat Jul 20, 2013, 10:21 PM
Jul 2013

He is being dragged into the investigation that involves the current governor of Virginia, Bob McDonnell...both of them received gifts from the same business owner...granted the governor got more, but Cuccinelli also received some perks to include buying stock in the company.

And it seems that when Virginia was sued over a tax bill, the attorney general didn't appear to be all that concerned in defending the Commonwealth. Perhaps it may have had to do with his conflict of interest, since Cuccinelli had owned stock in the company and sold it at a profit either right before or soon after the lawsuit was filed.

So, now he's got to deflect all the s**t that will be falling on him from McDonnell..and how best to do that? First he creates a BS site saying that an anti-sodomy law that was struck down by a Federal Appeals Court as being unconstitutional, is meant to protect minors form predators...when it's an archaic law only meant to prevent consenting adults from performing a sexual act...and when that doesn't seem to be working he actually show everyone that he's a hateful bigot.

I guess he thinks this will keep him safe and off the radar!

As a straight man what the hell is “the personal challenge of homosexuality?”
I have had gay and lesbian neighbors and friends for years and I have
never noticed any personality challenges. Me thinks Ken Cuccineli has more
than just a few sexual hang ups and or lustful urges.

I mean he covered up an exposed breast on the VA state seal .... the man has issues.

Cuccinelli should be so proud he and his party 'values' inspired people like hitler and currently inspire the killings of gays in other countries. Yeah, the devil still walks the earth thanks to his workers like Cuccinelli.

are log cabin republicans. Where he goes wrong is assuming they're ‘soulless’ and ‘self-destructive’ because of their homosexuality, when it's really because they're republicans. Of course, I don't believe that people are soulless and self-destructive because they're republicans, I think people become republicans because they're soulless and self-destructive.

That should be an instant win. I cannot imagine a majority in any state, whether it is a state in the north, south, east or west, who would vote for a candidate who wants to ban oral sex.

Naturally, his anti-gay stance is more lies and bullshit. That is all those types seem to spew.

The "personal challenge of homosexuality" is having to go through life dealing with mindless bigots like this Cuccinelli asshole.

94. What a disgusting thing to say, especially from a Christian
Sun Jul 21, 2013, 03:44 PM
Jul 2013

I'm not a Christian and don't want to sound like I have any business telling Mr. Cuccinelli or any other Christian what to believe, but really, gays don't have souls? That is the worst thing a Christian can say about another human being. In fact, he is denying that gays are part of humanity.

Even heretics, pagans, Muslims and Jews have souls. Even the Spanish Inquisition acknowledged that much. When a heretic or pagan (i.e., witch) cried out while burning at the stake, that was believed to be his soul escaping the body and flying upwards to salvation. Not only did the unfortunate person have a soul, but it was purified by the fire and thus the soul was saved for Christ. If the condemned witch didn't cry out, then it assumed the devil already had that person's soul and it was too late to do anything beneficial for the poor victim of the dark age/medieval/early Renaissance criminal justice system, anyway.

Vampires, on the other hand, have no souls. That is why a vampire casts no image in a mirror. I'm not exactly what they have that animates them (animate, meaning to move, from the Latin anima, meaning soul). Thus, by asserting that gay people no souls, Cuccinelli is removing homosexuals from humanity and reclassifying them something akin to a demonic ghost that sucks blood. Cuccinelli has demonstrated elsewhere recently that he has a problem with people who suck, and not the way Cuccinelli himself sucks.

Vampires, on the other hand, are not like homosexuals in that vampires exist only in myth, legend and lore while homosexuals, in spite of Mr. Cuccinelli's assertions to the contrary, are real people. If a gay person has no soul, then neither does any other human being, including Ken Cuccinelli.

However, if a Christian is one who at least professes to believe that every human being has a soul that can be saved through Jesus Chrirst, then Mr. Cuccinelli's statement means he doesn't believe homosexuals are human. Should we thus conclude that Mr. Cuccinelli is not a Christian, but is as best some sort of Christian heretic who, on a self-confessed principle, is incapable of loving his neighbor as himself, as least if his neighbor is gay.

To assert that another person has no soul is, coming from a devout Christian, a very hateful and disgusting thing to say.
