Liz Cheney To Challenge Mike Enzi In 2014
Source: AP, via HuffPo
CHEYENNE, Wyo. Former Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter Liz Cheney will run against Wyoming's senior U.S. senator in next year's Republican primary, her campaign said Tuesday.
Liz Cheney, 46, is the elder of Dick Cheney's two daughters. Her announcement is a political challenge unlike anything Wyoming has seen for years, maybe decades.
Republicans in the state rarely challenge incumbents of their own party in national office. All three members of the state's congressional delegation and all statewide elected officials are Republican.
Liz Cheney is married and has five children. She hasn't been a longtime Wyoming resident but she and her husband bought a home in the posh northwest Wyoming community of Jackson Hole last year.

(112 posts)Maybe Obama can sing the praises of Dick Cheney like he did his boss, George Bush Sr....completely revolting and just proof that Obama works for them...Trojan Horse anyone? This is getting beyond the absurd.

(21,181 posts)I wish there was a democratic candidate who could defeat her. It would be delish to have her be defeated.

Darn.

(3,261 posts)I wonder what the Cheney agenda is. Considering that she hasn't been a long-time Wyoming resident, she could have moved anywhere and run for office. They are setting her up for something and if they want it badly enough it won't matter how well-liked the GOP incumbent is. He may want to increase his security detail and avoid small planes. Hard to feel bad for a Republican but Enzi seems genuinely surprised and hurt. No honor amongst thieves!

ETA: As I posted elsewhere, a funny thing happened last time we meandered our way through Wyoming on a camping/fishing/old friends trip. We made a point to ask the locals what they thought of Dick. This was in the summer of '08 and the reviews were not positive despite his local-hero status. They were still Republicans but they thought he didn't care about them anymore, only the rich.
If a carpetbaggin' Lil' Cheney tries to ride daddy's coattails she may be in for a surprise. And wouldn't it be great to tag her with a big loss in a primary? Her political career could disappear in a puff of smoke like Dan Quayle's...

Meanwhile in Freeperville, people are calling Liz Cheney the "Republican Hillary Clinton" (we know what they mean in Freeper Speak), "Another big family ruling class name who will take the side of McCain and Graham who will want us in all wars and then be liberal on the homosexual agenda and cross dressing" (confused with Mary?), "RINO", and "GOPe" (GOP Establishment).

(10,450 posts)I know that Democrats in Wyoming are rarer than friendly grizzly bears. Do we have anybody challenging Enzi? If no, WHY THE HELL NOT? If Liz Satanspawn wins, we could gain this seat!
