(Roddy) White apologizes after suggesting Zimmerman jurors commit suicide

Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Falcons wide receiver Roddy White caused another digital firestorm with a tweet last night after the outcome of the George Zimmerman trial was announced.

White called for the jurors to kill themselves. He then tweeted about folks wanting him to get in trouble and later he apologized on Sunday.

Here’s the tweet that started his latest twitter controversy:

“All them jurors should go home tonight and kill themselves for letting a grown man get away with killing a kid,” he wrote on twitter.com on his verified @RoddyWhiteTV page.

It was the inept, lackluster prosecution team who didn't fulfill their responsibilities to give Trayvon the justice he deserves. Then to top it all off, State attorney, Angela Corey, holds what amounted to a self-congratulatory press conference to publicize her team's loss, a veritable celebration of their shared ineptitude!

In fact, I would have asked for the judge's permission to convict on premeditated murder, first degree murder. However, I can understand the actual jury's decision, given the extremely poor performance Cory's prosecutors turned in for Trayvon.

were handed by the defense and realizing what dupes they were. So they either get to spend the rest of their lives defending a stupid decision or stare it right in the face hoping that nobody else takes advantage of the "legal precedence" they just made with the stand-your-ground law.

He wouldn't have backed down and apologized. Many people say cruel and hurtful things when they are upset, the problem is that you can't take them back. I really would have liked to see Zimmerman jailed but I also hope the jurors aren't harassed, it would be pretty bad if we couldn't field juries because people were afraid of retaliation.

Jurors are instructed to rule based on the writing of the law and on the evidence they've heard. Pleasing a football player is never mentioned, as far as I know.

I think the jury should be lobotomized, just like the Rodney King jury should have been as well.

Don't tell me personal bias isn't put into a jury room. This isn't the movie "12 Angry Men."

Pleasing a football player is never mentioned - flippant and snide. Expected from apologists.

How would you have voted in the jury? If you say "none of my business," we can assume you would agree Zimmy had the right to kill that child.

Not sure of a system that is better than the jury system.

I think FL's system is flawed in that they have 6 jurors.

The more the merrier. Simple mob intelligence logic.

Roddy would be well advised think before he tweets. As bad as the jury decision was, nothing good will come of saying stupid crap like this.

Hell no I don't agree with the jury's decision, but it's over with. Everyone needs to act like the adults that they are and work to change an idiotic law (in many states, not just Florida) that let this happen.

Hell no I don't agree with the SCOTUS decision, but it's over with.

Everyone needs to act like the adults that they are and work to change an idiotic law that let this happen, but we can't appeal the SCOTUS decision, so there is nothing we can do except act like adults and deal with it because it's over.

Faulty logic. People say dumb things in the heat of the moment. I leave it to that.

over. You make it sound so simple. It will leave an impression on people for the rest of their lives, and the jury was predominately white. It amazes me how some people try to play down racial issues when it comes to certain groups being victims. Like I said, at least he did not go out and burn something or take justice in his own hands like some people I know.

I suppose it means the person being criticized should feel so much shame, that they would commit suicide. But I can't imagine someone upon hearing this would actually reverse his opinion and then take an overdose of drugs or commit some equally deadly act.

Or maybe the person who says "go kill yourself" means that he or she would like to kill the offending person but because of the distance and anonymity of the internet can't follow through on the killing.

To me, it seems to be the equivalent of Die! Die! Die! but adding the extra complexity of killing by one's own hand dilutes the message.

So, what's up with that?
