Nikki Haley Takes Heat After Report Blows Up 'Bogus' Voter Fraud Claims In South Carolina
Source: Huffington Post
For years, South Carolina Republicans have complained about the names of dead voters being used to cast ballots in a broad voter fraud scheme. Now that a recent report by the State Law Enforcement Division has blown up those claims, unable to find a single example of a "zombie voter" committing fraud, one Democrat is demanding that Gov. Nikki Haley (R) apologize for her party's "bogus" crusade.
In a statement released Monday, House Democratic Leader Todd Rutherford accused Haley and other Republicans of deliberately and deceptively pushing false claims for political gain.
"Now we have the proof that shows that the accusations of voter fraud were completely without merit," said Rutherford. "And once again, South Carolina's taxpayers have to foot the bill for the millions of dollars unnecessarily spent as a result of Governor Haley and her colleagues' incompetence and blind-ideology."
Rutherford went on to call for Haley and Republicans to "acknowledge that they were being dishonest about voter fraud" and to "apologize to the public."

(13,871 posts)who happens to be the stepson of Joe "you lie!" Wilson, went on Fox and said that they had established as 'absolute fact' that dead people had voted in recent elections. An 18 month investigation said there were zero cases of that happening. In most cases, the person had voted absentee and then died before election day, or, the most likely reason was that a poll worker mistakenly checked off the dead Joe Blow Senior when it was Joe Junior who was voting. Of course, the AG hasn't been able to make a commet yet.
With the recent Supreme Court case, they won't even have to pretend that this is anything less than suppressing minority and Democratic voters.

But I have no hope this woman will back track on her vile lies. Just like they never apologized for taking down ACORN when ACORN did nothing wrong.

These people have got to be held accountable for their actions and their words. An apology is a good start, but it shouldn't end there.

(10,857 posts)Remember what I've been telling you kids? That Mitt Romney would prove himself to be one of the worst Presidential candidates ever if his tax and vote fraud charges followed him into the mid-term elections of 2014?
Well, here's our chance. There is a clear case of vote fraud out there. Unfortunately (for Republicans, not us), it was cast by a conservative former governor of a liberal state, from his son's unfinished basement.
Is it possible for the people of Massachusetts to open a civil case against Romney for voter fraud? Because if they can, Mass is going to be the cornerstone of the modern progressive movement and they just might be able to start undoing some of the damage done over the past four decades.

(24,135 posts)non-citizens who voted, after claiming it was widespread.
DENVER (AP) The names of 155 suspected noncitizens who have cast ballots in Colorado elections are being sent to prosecutors, Secretary of State Scott Gessler said Monday, continuing a contentious debate between Gessler and critics who question the validity of his findings.
The voters are among 4,201 people who have received letters from Gessler, the state's elections chief, asking them to clarify their status since last summer in the lead-up to the 2012 contests. The 155 have voted in one or more past elections, and did not reply to the letters, Gessler's office said.
Gessler said he had "no choice but to refer these cases to law enforcement for investigation and prosecution."
Letters were sent to people who once showed proof of non-citizenship, such as a green card, when getting a driver's license and then later appeared on voter rolls. Gessler is also using a federal immigration database known as the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements. While it tracks who is a legal resident eligible to receive government benefits, the database was not designed to conduct voter citizenship checks, and critics say it's not error-free. http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Gessler-alerts-Colo-DAs-of-suspected-noncitizens-4641457.php
Some of those 155 are Republican's, but my guess this list of 155 all voted Democratic.

(17,064 posts)Thousands upon thousands that the GOP claimed were committing voter fraud. Upon closer examination, most of them were legally registerred. Some were dead people who hadn't been deleted from the voter rolls, but they hadn't voted. There were a handful of republicans and one democrat who had voted in two separate districts. And a non-resident Miami-Cuban who was mentally ill. So the grand total of voter fraud cases was less than 10...and most of them were republicans.

(17,064 posts)He could be doing more, but at least he has taken some steps addressing voter suppression. The recent SCOTUS decision kind of makes what hes done irrelevent though. Otherwise, Holder has been disappointing....though obviously hes doing the job Obama wants.
I think much has to do with the state parties though. Dem Party of Florida much too concerned with keeping their spots at corporate feed trough and fighting off primary challenges from progressive Dems to be worried about voter suppression, election fraud, etc. Its a very dysfunctional party.

(7,403 posts)"those who are eligible to vote do vote"
Eligibility is determined at the time the person registers to vote. If eligibility is determined at the time of voting then there would be no reason to register voters in the first place. While the statement may make a good sound bite it has no merit whatsoever. The only thing a voter ID card can prevent is voter impersonation and what this study shows is that they could find no example where that happened. Even with Voter ID these 950 clerical errors would still exist. Besides, Voter ID's are often more out of date than the registration records because people move and reregister while the State will refuse to issue a new ID just because of a change of address within the State. This will force people to cast provisional ballots which seldom get counted meaning this is a direct disenfranchisement people that tend to move. There is simply no demonstrated upside to Voter ID laws.

And, all the crackers here will slurp up those lies, just like they have the original one. This doesn't mean shit. These imbeciles will likely re-elect her once her term is over, unless there's a coup by her own party. They'll make the same excuses for her that they did her predecessor.
