Gov. Rick Perry: ‘We’re going to pass’ abortion restrictions in Texas

Source: Washington Times

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Sunday that state Sen. Wendy Davis’ attention-getting filibuster notwithstanding, the Legislature is going to approve restrictions on abortion when it gavels in another special session this week.

“We’re going to pass some restrictions on abortion,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.” “Texas is a place where we defend life. I mean, that’s the powerful message here and that’s what we’re focused on and politics will take care of itself.”

“People have relayed to me that never in the history of Texas [have] they seen that type of mob rule come in and discombobulate a legislative session,” he continued.

It does seem that the unborn are certainly more important to these people than the born.

I am in Arkansas and we don't have a Wendy Davis, so there is little or no dissent.

nation and he wants to talk about how important life is. He might be able to pass this among his TP friends and the GOP but he is not fooling the Democrats. It is more about being the war on women, taking away rights and being the radical Taliban in Texas.

I'd like to see a Democratic governor say "We are going to pass gun restrictions in {insert state name here}" with the same conviction, authority and obsessive resolve that Republicans display in their movement to eliminate legal abortion.

Republicans have no problem openly stating their goals - even when those goals are in opposition to the majority, or are otherwise "whacked". And, they're STILL winning elections, or are barely losing them owing only to late-breaking scandals.

Take almost any statement that a Republican makes about regulating and eliminating abortion and substitute the word "gun" for "abortion". That's what we (progressives) should be doing. Even if we lose a few elections, we should keep on hammering on it until the public gradually starts turning. That's what Republicans are doing - and it's working for them.

Which would you prefer Ricky McOops?

Thought so....

I just can't wait till you, and your Republican scumbag friends are retired to the dustbin of history.

There are only so many fossilized Republican voters, and they are dying like flies.

The days of America's Republican Reign of Terror are almost at an end.

I understand your only goal in life Ricky McOops is impress these brainwashed zombies, but there are those of us who prefer to live in the real world. You know, with science and stuff.

With the US Supreme Court justices who gutted the voting rights act, they made the fight even harder.

The unborn child has more rights than the living. Where are the print newspapers and even the internet news site writings on all of the GOPer run states constant pounding on their constituents rights?

One sided - thats it.

Rick Perry is the same man who supports execution. He claims to be a religious man and a Christian yet he judges others and blocks women from having free will. What religion is this he belongs to? My religion asks that I not judge others and that I let God decided at the pearly gates who pays for sins. I don't decide, and whose to say that I am right 100% of the time myself. I will be in that line one day myself. Who are we to judge or decided. Bottom line, Rick Perry is a true republican who believes in whatever gets him on television and gets him on the cover of the morning paper.

for Democrats running in moderate states to point to what those crazy repugs do when they're in power. The damage the idiots in Ohio, North Carolina and Texas are doing to the repug brand is priceless. I mean Democrats could never inflict that kind of damage, and yet the repug party is being done in by friendly fire.

It will be a cold day in Texas before ANY repug wins statewide office in Washington State. Simply put, it's demonstrably true that the repug party cares only about protecting billionaires and stopping abortion. That's it. They don't do anything else when they have control. Amazing. They're unfit to govern; they've proven it repeatedly at both the federal and state levels now.
