An image of the hidden microphone used to bug an office in Ecuadors London embassy, where WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been living for over a year, was revealed by Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino during a press conference Wednesday.
Patino told reporters the recording device was found beneath a desk in the office belonging to Ana Alban, the Ecuadorean Ambassador to the United Kingdom, according to Reuters. Patino said the microphone was discovered on June 16 before he visited the embassy to meet with Assange, who lives and works in a different room of the office. The British Foreign Office refused to comment on the matter.
I didnt denounce this at the time because we didnt want the theme of our visit to London to be confused with this matter, Patino said in a press conference Wednesday. Furthermore, we first wanted to ascertain with precision what could be the origin of this interception device in the office of our ambassador.
We are sorry to say so, but this is another instance of a loss of ethics at the international level in relations between governments.

(13,485 posts)it is some sort of transmission or receiving device considering the ferris core winding for oscillation tuning at the bottom... maybe from the 1930's!

(13,485 posts)when on a budget! Take apart a cell phone and an old general electric radio and you just may have all the parts you need to spy on your very own embassy. If your lucky, you just may find a few dog bone resistors and a couple of polystyrene capacitors to add to the vacuum tubes.

(10,597 posts)What would you do if you found a bug? I would find out if it works or if it's just a little paranoia machine. How was it found? In a routine sweep? How often do they sweep? Who found it? The housekeeper? Or did the wall socket stop working and the electrician find it?
Too many questions. Something seems bogus.
