White House rebukes online petitioners calling for presidential election recount

Source: The Hill

The White House responded on Wednesday to official petitions demanding a recount of President Obama's 2012 reelection by urging his political opponents to "work with your fellow citizens to help tackle the challenges that we can all agree our country faces."

"You don't have to support President Obama or his vision for this country," the White House says in the response. "But you have to acknowledge that all Americans, even those with whom you disagree, have the right to help to set our nation's course."

The posting by an unnamed administration official also says that petitioners were wrong to charge electoral fraud. Protestors had argued that in at least one Ohio county, President Obama captured 108 percent of the registered voters.

"In fact there isn't a county in Ohio that came anywhere close to reporting more total votes than it had registered voters," the White House said. "Across the state, the county-by-county percentage of voter turnout based on registration ranged from 53 percent to 79 percent. The statewide average was 71 percent."

I think the WH is being way too nice here. They should have used the standard 2000 reply: You lost. Get over it. And may I add, "Now, grow the fuck up."

primarily between the November election and the Bush v. Gore decision. At that point, everything was being hotly contested.

By contrast, the 2012 election isn't contested.

High Crime/Misdemeanor Charge?

Forger about passing it, the House is not going to even vote on any Articles of Impeachment. And if by some bizarre series of events, it did, what's the path to the 2/3 vote in the Senate for conviction?

And what linkage between Snowden and the President are you suggesting? This thread seemed to go way off topic.

talking it up?

An impeachable offense is whatever the House says it is. Conviction, removal from office and disqualification from future office, requires 2/3 of the Senate and no President has met that bar.

But recent news about NSA programs revealed that it was authorized by legislation and approved by the FISA court.

What "impeachable offense" are/were you referring to?

Ideas for new kooky petitions:

Admit to the American people that George W. Bush was abducted and abused by aliens

Bring Micheal Jackson and Elvis back to life and have them tour together

Annex Canada as the 51st-63rd states

Ban Fox Television, deport the Murdoch's, use their buildings for homeless shelters

Put Mitch McConnell in a water dunking tank for a month and let people try to get him wet

Have a punting contest with the balls belonging to John Bohner
