GOP Drops Demand For Offsetting Payroll Tax Cut

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/02/gop-drops-demand-for-offsetting-payroll-tax-cut.php?ref=fpa

Facing emboldened Democratic negotiators and a thin calendar, House Republican leaders have offered to extend the payroll tax holiday through the end of the year without paying for it.

“Because the president and Senate Democratic leaders have not allowed their conferees to support a responsible bipartisan agreement, today House Republicans will introduce a backup plan that would simply extend the payroll tax holiday for the remainder of the year while the conference negotiations continue regarding offsets, unemployment insurance, and the ‘doc fix,’” said GOP leaders in an official statement Monday afternoon.

The development represents the GOP’s concession to legislative and political reality.

the goppers are reloading. I'm pretty sure in their sinister little brains they are planning a back door attack since they can't win on any issues going frontal. They have voter suppression laws, mostly in place or will be in place by November 2012. Tons of money, and even got the nutso Koch Brothers claiming that Pres O is trying to suppress their vote (money).

During the 2010 elections, and before and thereafter, including the non-stop corporate media coverage of the Tea Brats (even if its several people), the goppers have pretty much said and have done everything negative towards Pres O and the Dems BUT I truly don't put nothing pass them because no matter what they say about being closer to God, they are just evil.

investment income.

A lot of people who think they're hot shit daytraders could end up depending on that Social Security check when they get old too.

It is better to "fix" Social Security within the original parameters of its own revenue source, the payroll tax.

If you pay for it from the general fund, the Republican argument about it contributing to the deficit suddenly becomes true--and gives them an excuse to not repay what was borrowed from the accumulated surplus.

11. It has to be paid for, by the wealthy.

The current payroll tax cuts are severely hurting social security, medicare...all of the "entitlements" (my ass) for working people. Usually these taxes go towards these much needed programs.
Raise the taxes on the wealthy. 30% after $250,000 is a start, from there we progressively tax wealth, the pre-reagan way. These taxes need to go towards the "entitlement" programs for workers and those that need it.
