China keeps quiet on NSA leaker Snowden

Source: cnn

Snowden provided fresh fuel Wednesday for the controversy he has sparked, telling a Hong Kong newspaper that U.S. intelligence agents have been hacking networks around the world for years, including hundreds of computers in China.
In the interview with the South China Morning Post, he also said he plans to stay in Hong Kong to fight any attempt to force him to return to the United States because he has "faith in Hong Kong's rule of law." His comments come as the FBI is investigating his case.

His presence in the southern Chinese territory, which has a separate system of government from the mainland, has raised questions about how an effort by the U.S. government to extradite him would unfold and what role Beijing might play in the process.

But China's first official comment on the matter gave away no clues.
"We have no information to offer at the moment," a spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Hua Chunying, said in response to a question about Snowden at a regular news briefing in Beijing on Thursday. She repeated the same answer to several follow-up questions.

I get the feeling that China will send him back home as his story is blowing up. See GD post about the Nation questioning Greenwald's story.

But I think someone should let you know...

Some of whom appear to be on someone's propaganda payroll.

"and now Chris Hayes, the Nation, Mother Jones.."

Scrutiny, but no character assassination from any of those sources.

Try your luck conning someone else.

As far as your accusation of me assassinating someone's character - posting an article link is NOT character assassination.

And I do not know who the heck you think my 'cohorts' are.

If you're keeping tabs on who is posting what and when then that's your prerogative, but in my opinion it's a waste of time.

I just remember that no one on Earth is perfect. Everyone has flaws. There are no more Boy Scouts in a job like that. We just have to remember that he's shining a very bright spotlight on what would ordinarily be a very secretive world. He's giving us information that they don't want us to know.

7. How do we even know Snowden is on the up and up. Sounds like he might have an ax to grind.

I mean for him to attest that he has "faith in Hong Kong's rule of law". Seriously? Not that I do any top secret work, but if I went public with certain proprietary information or revealed personal information, which I do have access to, I'd be fired in a heart beat. I honestly don't know what to make out of this. What's this guy's real motivation?

I haven't heard anything yet I haven't heard before as far as Snowden's leaks. Greenwald says he's got a trove of information and will be doing a series of stories based on it. As far as how credible these guys are, I think we should all consider that congress is upset about it and have reported getting shocking new briefings as a result of the leaks. They're not able to tell us the new things they've heard, but several of them have said that the public would be very upset if they knew the true scope and a few have hinted that the NSA is now capturing ALL communications, everywhere, and storing it for extended periods of time. It's also interesting to see foreign officials, allies and foes alike, are upset and asking tough questions.
Now, as for the veracity of Snowden's words... Who cares! Let's see the documents. That's the bottom line here. There were secret documents that no one knew of, now they're on the outside and we're just waiting to find out what's in them. The bottom line of the Bradley Manning story was the video and we didn't get to see that right away either. So everyone needs to sit tight and reserve judgment.
