Robert Gibbs: Darrell Issa made himself ‘the biggest joke in all of Washington’

Source: Raw Story

“Darrell Issa should call Jay Carney and apologize this morning,” Gibbs told MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Monday. “He’s laying out the charge and then saying it might be true. And then he’s saying, ‘As the investigator, I know where I want to get, now I’m just getting around to proving it.’”

“I mean, it’s a stunning thing. It’s why five people in this town take Darrell Issa seriously. And it’s the surest bet that the Republicans are very much on the verge of overplaying their hand publicly and that the American people will lose interest in their side of this,” he added. “To throw around the words liar and perjury as easily as he did is shameful. And if he’s got information that these people lied, he should put it out there today.”

Co-host Mika Brzezinski pointed out that “Darrell Issa just kind of took it down to a level that makes us all just want to walk away and ignore it.”

“It shows how unserious he is about investigating anything,” Gibbs agreed. “The notion that he’s in charge of — quote — Government Oversight might now be the biggest joke in all of Washington.”

... last election.

Lived there through the bad years of Duke Cunningham and Bilbray, and fought to get a Democrat then. Good to see in the last election that Bilbray got voted out. You could see it coming though with the changing demographics of that district going towards the Democrats. This district was just to the south of Issa's district, so those demographics could be shifting too, though yes, currently it is pretty gerrymandered heavily to favor him or another Republican for the time being.

The truth speaks for itself. In the absence of truth, the only thing that the GOP has is rhetoric.

The hearings are nothing but a farce that is being produced to delight the Fox News audience.

The GOP will keep up the non scandals up to tarnish the Obama''s administration for the 2014 elections. Plays well for their base and it will energize them. But it can also have the backlash as Democrats will also be motivated.

<The congressman, for example, claimed to receive the "highest possible" ratings during his Army career, despite the fact that at one point he "received unsatisfactory conduct and efficiency ratings and was transferred to a supply depot." Issa also claimed to have provided security for President Nixon in 1971, which wasn't true, and said he won a national Entrepreneur of the Year award, but didn't.

Perhaps he's not the kind of guy who should casually throw around words like "liar.">

Cummings isn't co-chair, he's 'ranking.' He's the lead dog for the opposing team, but their relationship is not one of equals.

The chair gets all the say and can rule capriciously...and in the case of this particular jerk, it must rankle Cummings enormously.
