US call for full Tiananmen massacre disclosure angers China

Source: BBC

China has accused the US of "prejudice" after it urged Beijing to provide a full account of the crackdown on pro-democracy activists after the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989.

Foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei said the US should "stop interfering in China's internal affairs".

The Chinese authorities had already reached a "clear conclusion" about the Tiananmen Square protests, he added.

Discussion of the crackdown, thought to have left hundreds dead, remains taboo.

Consider how it takes people like Bradley Manning to tell the truth about US military operations overseas only to face prosecution. Why is the US telling other countries to tell the truth about human rights violations?

well, insofar as anyone who ISN'T part of the conspiracy is automatically suspect, I guess it could be called "prejudice". But there are stronger, uglier and more exact words that would fit better.

for releasing classified intel though ironically enough if I recall correctly he wouldnt have been prosecuted if he had just provided the intel to a member of congress and or to the inspector general.
As for Tiananmen Square it has been over 20 years and you would think it would be safe enough for them to reveal atleast some details but then I feel the same about some of the stuff our government still has classified from decades ago as well.

secret government documents and has pleaded guilty to 10 of the charges which is 20 years in jail.

FT. MEADE, Md. – Army Pfc. Bradley Edward Manning pleaded guilty Thursday to 10 charges that he illegally acquired and transferred U.S. government secrets, agreeing to serve 20 years in prison for leaking classified material to WikiLeaks that described U.S. military and diplomatic efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the globe.

There are a minority of folks here on DU who will take up sides with any & all tyrannical regimes around the world simply because they oppose the US or something the US is trying to do or rumored of doing.

Seriously, this is obvious when folks try & equate what happened to Manning to what happened at Tiananmen Square...How SAD is that?

The same exact "logic" is used by the same people when it comes to issues like Syria...They purposely forget the Syrian Civil War started not because of terrorist like Russia & the Assad regime claim but due to DECADES of torture, oppression & murder that came a head when the Assad regime caught some KIDS spray painting anti-Assad regime slogans & they tortured the kids until they died then shipped the battered, broken & bruised bodies back to the parents as a warning to everyone do not mess with the regime...This is when the Syrian people broke & became violent as they should have!!

But listen to folks here on DU that claim to be "Liberals" and they will repeat the Assad regime's BS claims this all started due to Al Qaeda & other radical Islamic groups when nothing could be further from the truth! SAD & DISGUSTING!!

Even today the radical Islamic groups in Syria make a small minority...However, the longer the war goes the more radical folks will get that is the nature of war.

Sorry for the rant.

It is still important to point out human rights violations. China and Laos are both repatriating North Korea refugees that are being returned and put into gulags and most die or are killed. I think to throw up our hands and say "well we are guilty too so we can't say anything" is ridiculous.

When the Great Powers take pot shots at each other, it just exposes them more. So go ahead and keep taking shots at each other.

I think many other Americans have the same opinion also about the idiots in Congress, and it is our privilege to do so because we are Americans, just as much as the idiots we hire. And in my opinion, some of them are more of a idiot than others in Congress. We have the privilege to evaluate them and give them the boot too.

Everyone in Gohmert or Bachmann's districts, for example, has a choice. There are plenty of people they could send to Congress. They make their choice.

In China, there is no choice. No right to be an idiot but no right to be smart either.
