Apple CEO Tim Cook says Made-in-USA Mac will be assembled in Texas

Source: C-SPAN

We’re using our earnings growth to invest billions of dollars in the U.S. to create even more American jobs. We’re investing $100 million to build a Mac product line here in the U.S. The product will be assembled in Texas, include components made in Illinois and Florida, and rely on equipment produced in Kentucky and Michigan.

We previously noted that Apple is working with Quanta on shipping certain iMac models, but Quanta is based in California and Tennessee. With this in mind, it is likely that Apple will be working with Foxconn on the US-built Mac.

Apple, yesterday, disclosed that components for this new Mac will be sourced from Arizona, Texas, Illinois, Florida and Kentucky. Today, Cook also reiterated that Apple is building a new administrative campus in Texas.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) has set up corporate structures that have allowed it to pay little or no corporate tax -- in any country -- on much of its overseas income, according to the findings of a U.S. Senate examination released Monday evening.

The unusual result is possible because the iPhone maker's key foreign subsidiaries argue they are residents of nowhere, according to the investigator' report, which will be discussed at a hearing Tuesday where Apple CEO Tim Cook will testify.

"residents of nowhere" eh?

Apple pays more income tax than any other corporation or person to the U.S. They pay 2.5% of all corporate income tax collected by the U.S. I guess $6 billion a year is not enough for you. How much does Berkshire Hathaway pay? And why so little compared to Apple? Oh that's right they are the company that owes the IRS taxes back to 2002. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/29/warren-buffett-taxes-berkshire-hathaway_n_941099.html

The numbers I found was Apple paying not 6 billion in taxes but 14.2 billion in taxes in 2012 with 41.7 billion in net income. This puts them 3rd behind ExxonMobil ($31 billion) and Chevron ($20 billion).

http://www.forbes.com/pictures/mef45kghl/3-apple-computer/

Berkshire Hathaway paid 6.9 billion with 14.8 billion in net income. This would mean Berkshire's rate is actually slightly higher than Apples (28% to 25%)

Total to federal, state and local taxing authorities. I was using the federal rate. I mentioned Berkshire because holier than thou Warren Buffett is always saying, "tax me more, tax me more" and his company owes back taxes to the IRS going back to 2002.

If you don't believe the Post maybe you might believe the Berkshire annual report where they admit they owe over $1 billion going back to 2002. At December 31, 2010 and 2009, net unrecognized tax benefits were $1,005 million and $926 million, respectively.

Gonna take a lot of people to screw those things together, and if they're Americans it's to the good.

Severe deregulation. Rick Perry has done nothing but recruiting the companies from 49 states and allowed them to send their workers to death daily while impose the life insurance on individual workers in order for the corporations to earn "rightfully" after the "accidents" while getting away Scot-free.
Texas is practically the state of Corporations' Never-Go-To-Jail card.

It's too bad that information leaked out some weeks ago. I think we should have kept it a secret and then sprung it on Parry when he inevitably becomes a bad-loser (or whomever runs for gov on the RW ticket.)

We will turn our fantabulous state blue again!

The Texas state itself is like holy grail of the corporations' dream land of the deregulation. I guaranteed that in 20 years, if Rick Perry's heart is still beating, he will regret this many indecisions he has made in order to "create more jobs" in Texas in order to bid his Presidency in 2016.

I have a Mac Pro Quad Core tower. I believe it uses Intel Xenon processor chips. Over the years Macs have used Motorola, IBM and Intel processors. So I guess wherever those are made. But the point is, it's high quality. I've owned nothing but Macs since the Mac 512K. I'll never use anything else. My Mac G4 still works great. Just ran out of room.

..and have all my life. I'm not worried about which faction of the business party Texans on average vote for. Before corporate radio/media brainwashing everyone daily, Texas was in the lead of the major leftwing populist movement in the late 19th and early 20th century (it started with farmers in the hill country and spread nationwide, not to say that there weren't other important movements nationwide..) Any movement to the left will simply return Texas to this glory. Indeed, I have a certain pleasure and respect for Texas few would understand these days.

I don't mind the misunderstanding, what you say is often true amongst many establishment Democrats on these forums and others.

And none of this "Made in China, but Assembled in America" BS. The've sunk $13 billion into actual U.S. manufacturing facilities...just since 2010...right here on U.S. soil.

In fact, ironically enough, the A6 CPU that drives the modern iPad is manufactured by Samsung in Austin Texas. It's pretty much the ONLY component in an iPad that is "American Made". Samsung makes the chips in Texas and ships them to China so that Apple can include them in their devices.
