I can't see their response (ignore), only yours, but I'm sure they have some clever defense of those 'responsible' gun owners.

Probably something to do with our 'freedoms.'

So the good old boys are having second thoughts about charges after brushing it aside with all of that 'boy is expected to survive' shiny rainbow bullshit.

Imagine a GSW that close to vital parts of a 2-year-old anatomy. This boy is going to be MESSED UP. I don't know if jail is the answer, but I bet the family can do without having firearms in their home, at a minimum.

The poor kid is in a no win situation all because some idiots decided to have a loaded gun laying around their house. I would not like seeing him placed in foster care, but I would much rather see him in foster care than dead.

Sorry, but people who leave loaded guns around kids are not capable parents. Gun crimes need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, that kid is lucky to be alive. The parents need to face the consequences of their actions and the kid needs to be placed with people who won't give him a loaded gun.

or is just for gun accidents?

Be honest - it has nothing to do with kids and everything to do with your contempt for guns.

Like driving while drunk? Like letting kids ride ATVs?

All kill or hurt more kids than guns. All require negligence on the part of parents. Should those parents also go to jail and their kids taken away?

Looking at your example however at least in the case of drunk driving people do go to jail.

There is a line between accidents and negligence, sometimes the line will be clear and other times it won't be. Leaving a loaded gun where a two year old can reach it is a clear case of neglectful behavior however, it is totally inexcusable.

just to sensationalize the whole thing and get the word out that kids are stupid around guns.

If the parents are paranoid enough to want a loaded gun in the bedside table, they need to find a way to lock it up during the day when the kids are awake.

I'm sick to death of these stories about kids finding guns and shooting themselves or others with them.

For manslaughter, if a child is killed as a result.
