Louie Gohmert Goes Off On Eric Holder At House Hearing
Source: Huffington Post
A visibly infuriated Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) tore into Attorney General Eric Holder after his time expired in a House Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday. The exchange, about the FBI's investigation into deceased Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, marked a low point in congressional civility.
Gohmert alleged that the FBI failed to question Tsarnaev in a "thorough enough" manner despite a tip from Russia that he had been "radicalized," even as the federal government was "going after" Christian groups like that of Billy Graham.
"You've made statements as matters of fact--," Holder began in response.
"You point out one thing that I said that was not true," shot back Gohmert.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) noted that Gohmert's time had expired. Gohmert asked as a point of personal privilege that the attorney general answer which specific claim Gohmert had made that was untrue. The chairman told Holder to answer.
"The only observation I was going to make is that you state as a matter of fact what the FBI did and did not do. Unless somebody has done something inappropriate, you don't have access to the FBI files," said Holder. "I know what the FBI did. You cannot know what I know. That's all."
"I cannot have a witness challenge my character," said Gohmert, as the chairman told him again that his time had expired. Gohmert continued talking as other members of the committee asked him to observe hearing rules and suspend.
Gohmert asked again for a point of personal privilege and said that Holder was "wrong on the things that I asserted as fact." The other members of the committee disputed that his contention was a point of personal privilege.
"The attorney general will not cast aspersions on my asparagus," said Gohmert, in a malapropism for the ages.

(794 posts)America is being torn apart by radical right wingers that have learned how to herd all the paranoids, racists and homophobes together, while convincing the rest of America that these are just conservatives. I'm worried that the presence of so many antiAmerican right wing teabaggers inside our government will lead to the final death throes of all of the good produced by America because of, and since the victory of the Union in the civil war.
Until recently, public educated Americans knew the evil represented by the rebelling confederate states- now we have deeply racist, so-called conservative congresspeople and senators that think of the civil war as the war of northern aggression.
These groups are the same extremists from our history that have always wanted to get rid of the 13th and 14th amendment and the liberties they convey; most right wing extremists want to re-set the constitution to pre-civil war settings. How's that for treason and buring hatred towards America?
Teabaggers are not conservatives, but attempt to disguise themselves as such. They do not deserve to be recognized as a legitimate political voice as they have a rich history of damaging our fair democracy with red scares and citizen's councils; citizenship tests and poll taxes. Gomert's brand of America-hating Teabagger extremism isnt the begining of the damage right wing operatives, media and legislation has caused America- rather it seems to be getting close to the end-game strategic point- beyond which our beautiful country will topple due to willfull damage from within and concerted attacks from without. Louie is a Kowardly Klan Klown, but there's a lot more of them out there watching Fox "news" and soaking up the 3000 watts of pure paranoid historical revisionist hatred from the blaze.
It IS still our country nominally, but I'm starting to think the tipping point towards Idiocracy has already been acheived (Palin, Bachman,Gomert)and we're all living in the first relics of the American experiment and the ideals it represents. I'm hopeful that I am wrong.
Please...

Gohmert stated in a House Judiciary Hearing that he believed the FBI did not act with due diligence concerning alleged bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev. His contention was that the FBI was more interested in Christian groups such as those led by Billy and Franklin Graham than in groups that might be considered less politically correct to target. Attorney Genral Eric Holder responded to his claims: "The only observation I was going to make is that you state as a matter of fact what the FBI did and did not do. Unless somebody has done something inappropriate, you don't have access to the FBI files," said Holder. "I know what the FBI did. You cannot know what I know. That's all." Gohmert objected to this on the grounds that Holder had "challenge[d]" his character. After several attempts to inject his viewpoint as a point of personal privilege Gohmert stated: "The attorney general will not cast aspersions on my asparagus".
