Apple supplier Foxconn hit by hackers

Lance Whitney
by Lance Whitney February 9, 2012 6:28 AM PST

A group of hackers known as Swagg Security is taking credit for a breach of Foxconn security, resulting in the theft of usernames, passwords, and other private information.

In a series of Twitter posts yesterday, the group boasted that it publicly released the information on the Pirate Bay Web site as well as on Pastebin. The attack grabbed the credentials of every Foxconn employee, according to 9to5Mac, including Terry Gou, CEO of parent Hon Hai Industries.

Beyond damaging Foxconn internally, the stolen information could also create trouble for some of the company's technology partners.

"The passwords inside these files could allow individuals to make fraudulent orders under big companies like Microsoft, Apple, IBM, Intel, and Dell," Swagg Security said on its Pastebin page. Be careful ; )"

These people do not even seem to be using computers. I don't think they are the ones under attack:

Why this jihad against Apple, when every single tech manufacturer of computers, cell phones, televisions, printers, etc. uses Foxconn?

Your small disclaimer at the end doesn't make up for the screaming headline.

I find this hacking stuff dangerous and offensive. There are ways to protest that are not theft.

or Microsoft. So I agree that is important. That's why I am contacting Apple, as well as intel, Samsung, Microsoft etc as I use their products as well.

But it is ridiculous to pretend that Apple is the only one, as many DU'ers have done. Some DU'ers have a real "can't see the forest for the Apple tree" problem. It is an obsession for them.

we'll stop attacking apple.
apple acts like it's GOD and we lowly peons are lucky to be able to buy their overpriced crap.

fact is apple could make ALL their stuff in the US, sell it at the SAME price, and only take a 30% hit on profits.

they don't.

they don't care about the working conditions where work in their name is done (my job at apple support was a living hell)
they don't care about conditions at their factories
they don't care about he US economy.

they
don't
care

so they are a valid target.

same with the thugs. Yes there are dem's who are lyers, cheaters, thiefs, etc... but democrats don't go around pounding their chests says we're so moral!

When apple stops acting so high and mighty, we'll stop attacking them.

you won't have much credibility. And nothing to contribute to a discussion of the big picture of why practically the entire industry manufactures in China.

I get it, you have a hard on for Apple. A Mac user was mean to you once, or an Apple commercial irritated you.

That apparently allows you to pretend that Microsoft, Amazon, Dell, IBM, intel, etc etc etc don't use Foxconn for manufacturing.

And that is why you have no credibility on this issue.

you're the perfect example why most techs hate the cult of jobs... and thus apple.

but continuing this conversation with you is obviously pointless.

only republicans use "but everyone does it" as a justification.

if you had any reading comprehension skills you would have seen that I make a case for returning manufacturing to the US.

but i've long since found that cultists of jobs don't have such skills.

apple is set apart because of their attitude and superiority complex.
apple is NOT better than they rest, they do NOT use better parts.
they literally use the same factory as everyone else.

and THAT is why they're my target of hate and scorn.
but i doubt that you;ll get that. pity.

It is very telling that your first move is to put words in my mouth.

I said no such thing and I justified nothing.

What I said "stop pretending apple is the only one" It wasn't a "justification", it was pointing out how narrow and hypocritical you have made your world view because of your pathological obsession with Apple.

"THAT is why they're my target of hate and scorn." In other words, Apple Derangement Syndrome.

You are so blinded by it that you are unable to see the big picture. "Must Hate Apple, Must Ignore All The Other Culpable Firms, Must Ignore the FOXCONN manufactured items in my posession."

I have no clue where your obsession comes from, but you sound like a classic "platform warrior" who forgot the dumbass war was over and that your side won. Let go.

As to cultish behavior, I think you are doing a lot of projecting.

This wasn't an argument just merely and observation.

I don't see how this is a victory lap, unless that is your way of agreeing with me?

"but asus doesn't put themselves out there as this great company that cares about people"

However, dell does, samsung does, so does sony and also amazon. (to name a few)

So some unknown company such as asus who makes a product and doesn't choose to do the type of marketing that apple and the others I have named is now innocent of being complicit of the same violations?

Hmmm, that's some fasinating logic you have displayed.

The iNet: Conan’s Solution to Foxconn Suicides

The ongoing issues that Apple faces regarding workplace conditions in its suppliers' Chinese factories has left an ugly streak on the company's bright and sparkly facade. Why not use all that power of innovation and design to tackle the core issue? Last night's Conan featured an Apple commercial that 'revolutionizes the safety net.'
