Boeing confirms piece of 767 found blocks from Ground Zero WAS part of the wing flap from 9/11 plane
Source: Mail
Boeing confirmed that the five-foot piece of rusted plane that was found behind the proposed location of a mosque just blocks from Ground Zero is in fact a part of one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center more than a decade ago.
Officials said the 5-foot piece is a trailing edge flap support structure, police said.
It is located closer to the body of the plane and helps secure wing flaps that move in and out and aid in regulating plane speed.
Investigators initially thought it was part of the landing gear because both pieces have similar-looking hydraulics.
Boeing officials told police the part came from one of its 767 airliners, but it isn't possible to determine which flight.

(42,239 posts)Maybe it was dumped there for whatever reason.

(3,579 posts)The officers that responded to the initial report used it to pull to part over, so they could look for identifying marks on the part. They found the rope in the alley, apparently its use is in their initial report paperwork, which the news media didn't have access to at the time.
I heard this interview on WCBS Radio this afternoon around 3;30 EDT.

(33,982 posts)Looks like maybe someone tossed it down there, as the rope is just laying on it. (Looks like people on the roof have been throwing LOTS of junk down there for decades)

(3,076 posts)... deal? I recall Boeing had painted up at least 2, but I believe it was up to 5 of their 767's in military drab gray for, "testing". The National Defense University (NDU) does make mention of something going on here, "pre 9/11".
"The ESLS pre-dated 9/11 and did not account for increased flight hours due to homeland
defense air patrols and the war in Afghanistan. Usage rates increased from the ESLS-reported figure of 308 hours per year to 435 hours.10 Concerned, the Joint Requirements Oversight
Council in October 2001 validated a mission needs statement (MNS) for a new refueling aircraft, making the Air Force the lead.11 A month later, the Air Force signed the final MNS. Referencing the never-completed Air Forces Tanker Requirements Study, the MNS stated there was
an immediate need for new tankers.12"

So... of course a couple of Boeings crashed into the WTC towers, but every picture/video I have seen, the aircraft that hit the towers had no commercial markings, ie... were gray.
So I do not know exactly what they are admitting here that a, "piece of a Boeing 767 was found", in the WTC area. Did the parts found have identifiable serial numbers on them? Then they would be able to trace it to the individual plane sold to American or United Airlines.
