Source: Dzhokhar Tsarnaev arrived at hospital 'covered in blood'
Source: Ashleigh Banfield, CNN
Alleged Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was semi-conscious, wrapped in field gauze and "covered in blood" when he arrived late Friday at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, according to a detailed first-hand account from a senior employee at the hospital.
The source said Tsarnaev appeared to have lost a great deal of blood and was making no sound until he reached the Red Zone Trauma Area, where he began to moan in considerable pain.
He didn't seem to utter any words, the source said.
Approximately 8-10 medical staff were working on him and there were at least two thoracic surgeons present as well as other surgeons. His condition was stabilized very quickly, said the source.

(7,570 posts)I do believe this whole Boston bombing demonstrated how ridiculous and useless they are as a news organization, from day one.
At least Fox News had the guts to go to the courts and defend their right to spew complete horseshit.

(81,857 posts)I see blood. Are we going to debate the word "covered" or that we can't see his entire body?

The hearing transcript is out there if you google for it.
He was moved out of the hospital to a medical center at Fort Devens on Friday.

Maybe I should get out of DU more often.

(32,973 posts)I'm one of the X ray Techs standing in the ED, waiting to do the lateral neck films, the from above chest and belly films on the patients who come in covered in blood. A whole lot of people came into Americas Emergency Departments every night covered in blood, often there is a trauma team ready to go to the patient and start our jobs when the EMTs get there, sooo...what is the point in this story? Bullet holes bleed.
And 'm not feeling argumentative, I'm just not getting why his blood is different.

(90,677 posts)It's absolutely no surprise to me that if he was taken to ER it was because he was bleeding a lot. What did they think the cops would do? -- let him bleed out?
Apparently that is what some think was supposed to happen -- either because they think the "evil" cops were trying to kill him in the first place, or because they think the "good" cops should enact their own revenge fantasies of mob justice. I'm disgusted by both versions.
I agree -- this is a news story without content. I'm glad the little bastard is alive to talk. I hope he gets reasonably well and talks a lot.

(3,335 posts)What irony, that the Jihadist was taken to a Jewish Hospital where probably a Jewish surgeon saved his life. No 40 virgins for you.

(135,425 posts)The doctors aren't necessarily Jewish, but the Beth Israel portion of the center has Jewish roots.

(14,918 posts)back in the days when Jewish doctors were discriminated against and subjected to quotas, if hired at all, in the leading hospitals. It is now a world class research medical center and Harvard teaching hospital, and the doctors come from all backgrounds without respect to religion. The Beth Israel merged several years ago with the New England Deaconess Medical Center, which was originally Methodist. Both institutions have always served any patient regardless of creed.
