Mother of bomb suspects found deeper spirituality

BOSTON (AP) - In photos of her as a younger woman, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva wears a low-cut blouse and has her hair teased like a 1980s rock star. After she arrived in the U.S. from Russia in 2002, she went to beauty school and did facials at a suburban day spa.
But in recent years, people noticed a change. She began wearing a hijab and cited conspiracy theories about 9/11 being a plot against Muslims.
Now known as the angry and grieving mother of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, Tsarnaeva is drawing increased attention after federal officials say Russian authorities intercepted her phone calls, including one in which she vaguely discussed jihad with her elder son. In another, she was recorded talking to someone in southern Russia who is under FBI investigation in an unrelated case, U.S. officials said.
Tsarnaeva insists there is no mystery. She's no terrorist, just someone who found a deeper spirituality. She insists her sons - Tamerlan, who was killed in a gunfight with police, and Dzhokhar, who was wounded and captured - are innocent.

Let Dzhokhar make a plea to put himself in prison for life, spare the American public a trial, and please, let's put an end to the stupid conspiracy nonsense here and now.
I'm done with all this, let's please not drag it out forever ...

During the 1980s, bowl cuts were popularised by punk rock groups like the Ramones.[4] The bowl cut gained popularity among teenaged and pre-teen boys in the late 1980s and the hairstyle was a veritable fad in some American locales, especially among the skater subculture. The popularity of the bowl cut faded by the mid-1990s.[5]

The age of their oldest son in that photo would make it about 25-24 years old.

Note that he is wearing a uniform.
A moustache timeline
<snip>
The 1970s and early 1980s were another heyday for the moustache. No longer was a hairy moustache an outward sign of disaffected youth. Every second man seemed to have a moustache. From the sports field to the state service, the trend was towards big and bushy as moustaches seemed to symbolise a rugged manliness. Was it just a coincidence that this happened at the same time as the women's rights movement got under way?
New styles also came in, heavily influenced by American fashion. The droopy, sinister Fu Manchu and pencil-thin Italian tash both owed some of their popularity to kung fu, gangster and Mafia movies of the time.
The moustache craze did not last much beyond the early 1980s, but pockets of people with moustaches hung on often in uniformed services, such as the Police, the Fire Service or the armed forces.
For some in the gay community coming out in the 1980s, moustaches were an iconic symbol of identity. Inspired by singer Freddy Mercury or bearded Bears, gay men wore their facial hair with pride.
