After Boston, Rubio Entertains The Idea Of Not Granting Visas To Muslim Students

Source: Think Progress

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) on Wednesday suggested that, given the attack on Boston carried out by two immigrants, he would consider barring young foreign Muslims from getting student visas to come the United States.

Prompted by host Neil Cavuto to address how the attack by the Tsarnaev brothers — neither of whom came to the country on student visas — had influenced immigration reform, Rubio said that he was willing to consider Fox News Host Bob Beckel’s suggestion that anyone who observes Islam should not get a student visa:

CAVUTO: Senator, there are some getting leery of all the Muslim students in America. Bob Beckel is among those saying stop grants visas, others speaking about slowing down the number getting into the country. What do you think?

RUBIO: We need to be open to changes that provide more security. I don’t like profiling anybody or singling or generally leading, on the other hand student visas are something this country does because it’s in our national interest but you don’t have a right to a student visa. I’m not prepared to take a firm position on restriction. I want to learn about what might have worked to prevent past attacks.

Even American students, for example Canada's Universities are way less expensive and they take many scholarships and grants.

I think Mr.Rubio is just another R- anti- any immigration.

this is a good thing, not a bad thing.
"The number of international students enrolled in U.S. colleges climbed 6% to a record 764,495 last year" The year it speaks of would be 2011 the most recent numbers I can find.

2013 Canada will host over 100,000 such students, a new record, 8% of their students come from other countries to Canada, and Canada is working to up those figures, they are very welcoming to students indeed.

in 1975 there were less than a million international students globally, today it's around 3.5 million a year who study abroad. All nations who host students host more each year the trend is universal.

8. Good for college income but the costs of American colleges are to high for many Americans.

Even if American colleges double, triple their price they will still fill with wealthy foreign visa students.

It's a shame so many Americans can't afford to go to college anymore unless they are wealthy. Or want to be part of the trillion dollars in student loan (another scam for Federal money) group.

And besides, the Tsarnaev brothers came to the US in 2002 when they were NINE and SIXTEEN.......with their PARENTS......on an grant of ASYLUM.

All of which has nothing to do with student visas, and he knows that. Never mind, he'll ride the GOTP hobby horse anyway.
