Russia’s North Caucasus Rebels Deny Link to Boston Bombings

Source: Bloomberg

Rebels in Russia’s North Caucasus region denied any link to the April 15 attack on the Boston Marathon in a statement posted on the vdagestan.com website.

The Caucasian Mujahedeen are not fighting with the United States of America,” according to the statement, which was attributed to unidentified Mujahedeen commanders in Dagestan. “We are at war with Russia, which is responsible not only for the occupation of the Caucasus, but also for heinous crimes against Muslims.”

An FBI-led probe is looking into a six-month trip suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, an immigrant of Chechen descent, took around two years ago to Chechnya and neighboring Dagestan, both regions of Russia that have been embroiled in Islamist separatist movements.

vdagestan.com claims to be the official website of what it terms the “Dagestan Province of the Caucasus Emirate” and features calls for jihad and images of Islamist fighters.

2. Chechnya rebels have no reason to bomb the US. Who do so many want to believe they did?

The next time some Baptist kid shoots up his school, I want to hear the press talk about how it is a Southern Baptist "jihad" against the US.

in their fight against Russia. If this action was carried out against the Russian consulate or Russian diplomats or some other Russian interest - it would make sense as a terrorist strike. What happened was plain, simple cold blooded murder - no denying that. But so far there has not be the slightest shred of evidence that these murders were in any political or religious sense an effort to coerce the U.S. government toward changing its policies. Based on what we know so far - calling them terrorism is a far fetched stretch at best. There might be evidence that could change that. But so far - until there is the tiniest bit of evidence to indicate otherwise we have a plain simple case of multiple murders.

5. The Boston bombers were not Chechen Rebels.

They were from that region originally, and were influenced to become radical Islamic fundie nut-bags while here in the US.

6. the evidence does not support the younger one being anything resembling a radical Islamic fundie

nut-bag - in fact quite the opposite. The older one's Islamist political interests were related almost exclusively to the Chechen separatist movement - at least from what is known so far.

3. Putin is going to ride the Boston Marathon bombing all the way to crushing Chechnya

into smithereens.

Of course they're going to say this. Putin's iron fist has already been incredibly destructive. Everybody can see the writing on the wall that he'll manipulate these events to massively move against the Chechen separatist movement even more violently.
