New York Post repeatedly misidentifies Boston suspects
Source: The Raw Story
Authorities say they have photos of two men who are being sought in connection to the Boston marathon bombing, but theyre not the same two men on the cover of Thursdays New York Post, which previously mis-reported that police had a Saudi national in custody as a suspect.
The Post explained that the photo comes from images police are circulating in an attempt to identify the individuals highlighted therein, but the front page headline exclaims: BAG MEN, Feds seek these two pictured at Boston Marathon.
Sluths on Reddit, however, have apparently settled the matter, discovering the Facebook page of one of the men and individuals who claim to know the other, and neither appears to be the mysterious bombers.
The Posts latest comes immediately following a report of a Saudi national the paper said was being held as a suspect in the bombing. The man turned out to be a witness who was questioned about what he saw, and Boston police subsequently denied the report.

As sadly incompetent as CNN's coverage of the Boston bombings has been, the title of worst media source ever still clearly belongs to the New York Post who has been downright malicious in their coverage.

Every time I see someone actually pick up and buy a copy, my soul dies a little more.

More times than I can count, I pass the same people in the afternoon who I passed in the morning, and their stacks are still just as high.
Not a paper fit for even kitty litter lining, IMO.

(603 posts)misinformation about how many were killed (I think they reported 12 or 13 were killed) as the first reports were coming out. No one else was reporting this type of info at that time.
Should we be surprised? NY Post is owned by News Corp/Rupert Murdoch.

Innocent people that happened to have a similar name (remember Adam Lanza's brother, Ryan, being convicted of the Sandy Hook Massacre all over the internet?), brown skin, or just being in the right place at the wrong time. All of the lawsuits available can never return a person's security. Their right to live in peace.

We need to give media a break, they probably watch those websites too.

(2,805 posts)Not OK for the MSM to report the speculation of those sites.
I followed the speculation on reddit but I don't expect to see Anderson Cooper discussing it like it has merit on CNN. CNN is supposed to have reporters who get their information from verified/official sources not gossip websites.
CNN was the one that created the "arrest" story out of whole-cloth. No one was expecting an arrest the second day after the bombings. They created that whole fiasco. I have no sympathy.
One slight misconception that I had as well was that CNN had done the same exact thing to Ryan Lanza. In that case it was the authorities that misidentified the shooter. (Or perhaps they were spinning their mistake the same as they did yesterday but I believe officials actually did get the name wrong.)

(22,651 posts)I don't think hundreds of people going over pics and offering opinions of what looks suspicious is just gossip. The pics offered do look suspicious. The internet has really grown into something bigger than the old chat rooms. Fine if CNN wants to report on that, wrong of them to not always credit the source.
