Miss. man accused of mailing suspected ricin described conspiracy theory involving body parts

Source: Washington Post

A Mississippi man accused of mailing letters with suspected ricin to national leaders believed he had uncovered a conspiracy to sell human body parts on the black market and sometimes performed as an Elvis Presley impersonator.

Paul Kevin Curtis, 45, was arrested Wednesday at his home in Corinth, near the Tennessee state line about 50 miles north of Presley’s birthplace in Tupelo.

...

Curtis wrote that he was trying to “expose various parties within the government, FBI, police departments” for what he believed was “a conspiracy to ruin my reputation in the community as well as an ongoing effort to break down the foundation I worked more than 20 years to build in the country music scene.”

...

The FBI said there was no indication of a connection between the letters and the Monday bombing in Boston that killed three people and injured more than 170. The letters to Obama and Wicker were postmarked April 8, before the marathon.

Under W: somebody mails anthrax, kills several people, and never gets caught.

Under Obama: somebody mails ricin, kills nobody, and is nabbed within days.

But many times they aren't righty or lefty. Some weird thing bothers them and consumes them to the point they do something bizarre.

Will destroy ye.

Yes. The reason they caught him so quickly is that he's been sending letters like this to various authorities for a while. Only without the ricin, which may or may not even be ricin.

He worked at a hospital and found body parts and developed this bizarre theory about it, and for a very long time he's been out peddling his crazed theory. His frustration keeps growing because no one is listening to his claims (due to being utterly crazy without the slightest foundation in reality), and he thinks that's proof that they are all involved in the conspiracy.

It comes back to mental health issues, as so many of these things do.

There's plenty of crazy to go around in the world, and this guy seems to have gone back for seconds.

One can go around talking about liberals or conservatives are crazy, Republicans or Democrats, but for one of theirs, there's always one of ours. It's a tit-for-tat game that doesn't get anywhere.

No way. He's going to be called a "nut" and that's it.

BTW: There's a picture of him mugging before a bumper sticker that says, "Christian and a Democrat" floating around Freeperville but that might not have even been his own car, just one he thought was "funny" in a parking lot. The fact that the pic is from a cell phone at night fits that scenario.

and agree with you analysis that it was not his car and merely thought anyone calling themselves a Christian and an Obama supporter was funny. I've already shut down two wingers with those tweets after asking them to explain them.

but a bad guy with ricin. Maybe the NRA should expand its coverage and include ricin as a 2nd amendment right. Then we could decide whether this guy was a good or bad guy with ricin.

or his music just plain sucked and he could cope with that.

get a large pot, put in some silver lame', a healthy does of really off key singing, a bunch of Breaking Bad episodes and the frustrated dreams of a guy who clearly thought he was an undiscovered talent held down by "the man" and this is what you get.

eta: the post to which I was responding has been removed, either by tombsstone or by the poster doing a dirty delete. Basically, they tried to assert that everyone was wrong about the guy being from a blue state--he wasn't. He was from Mississippi, north of Tupelo near the Tennessee border... and that the car he was posing in front of in the picture was his, when there is no evidence to say that. Glad to see their idiocy was removed before it polluted this thread any further.

Tort reform is for all the other people - not the wingnuts who have a legitimate beef like finding body parts in a morgue. Wingnuts think everything like that is for everyone else. He's a birther - that's all I need to know to know he's not anywhere near the left side of the aisle.
